I have two large (9'x12') area rugs that have pilled, like a sweater, but all over. There is a layer of pilling, like a web, over the surfaces of the rugs entirely. I was wondering if it would be a huge mistake to try hair clippers on the surface, sort of like shearing a sheep, like a giant sweater shaver. The rugs are synthetic. Thoughts?

I have a round two interview today for a business analyst position in the interactive division of a large international company. I've never been for an interview that included "It's OK to dress down" instructions, and don't want to come off as either stuffy or too laid back.
I'm thinking about a v-neck sweater over a dress shirt, with no tie. Would I be wiser wearing a jacket instead? With a tie?

I'm trying to rediscover a webcomic in which the protagonist is a Jewish girl who defeats a monster in a sweater-knitting competition. I think it may have been linked from MetaFilter circa 2010, but I can't re-find the post, and apparently failed to bookmark it. Can you assist, O Hive Mind?

I recently stumbled across this sweater
and I'm enamored with it. Unfortunately, it's sold out or $600 everywhere I can find it. Oh great hivemind, can you find me a sweater that ties in the front like this and drapes all gorgeously? I especially love how wide the belt is and how gracefully the sweater flows from the waist.

I have a traditional Icelandic hand-knit wool sweater (or "jumper" in European parlance) which I purchased when I was wearing a size XL. I am now wearing a size M and I miss my beautifully warm sweater. Is it safe to attempt to shrink it, or will that totally destroy it? If it's worth trying, does anyone have any guidance on how to do it? Explain as though you were talking to a 5-year-old - I have no experience in the fiber arts.

Fashionista filter: I love cardigans and as a Librarian I have quite a collection. But one thing always bugs me, if your cardigan cannot button up comfortably does that mean that it is too small for you? I don't wear mine buttoned up, but I do see people that wear them open and it looks like they barely fit--and there is almost nothing worse than a too tight sweater.

I bought this old Escada sweater
at a thrift store for a few bucks. It had a few small brown stains that I figured I could live with, but after I got it home I realized that it had a HUGE yellowish armpit stain on one side. What (if anything) can be done? [more inside]

I've shaped up and lost a number of inches, mostly in the hip area. Yay. But now my sweaters that otherwise still fit are baggy at the bottom. For some reason, the bagginess is most pronounced in the back and they look awful. Is there a way, short of putting the inches back on, to make them more form-fitting at the bottom? [more inside]

Woolrich stuff has actual wool in it. I have received a gift of a lovely sweater and a very nice coat that are from Woolrich. I can wear a long sleeve thin shirt under the sweater, but what about the coat? i don't always wear long sleeves and the coat is a 3-season. Is there something I can put over the wool part inside, like iron-on felt or nylon or something? [more inside]

Looking for an image of a kind of men's sweater I'd like to have made. It's a pullover, with straight rows, round neck, but with a 2-3 row ring where the shoulders meet the torso. I've only seen these in solid colors. The one I once had was heavy, water proof, warm and wonderful. I saw an image recently on the Net but failed to bookmark it correctly and cannot now find it. What I'm looking for is probably European, maybe British.

I bought a sweater at a thrift store with a flame logo on it and the word "FLAMES" under the logo (Photo
). The sweater was made by Champion, so I'm thinking it's a sports team logo. The only Flames team anyone seems to know is the Calgary Flames, and this doesn't appear to be their logo. What did the logo come from?

Looking for a style, it includes sleeveless sweater vest over a white shirt with black trousers or tight jeans and I think a studded belt. Im looking for the name if one exists or some pics that will help me find the clothes to buy. We recently had swedish exchange students here and one of them had it and I remember seeing a swedish band clothed like that too so I think its a swedish trend

My favorite sweaters are made of wool. They're dry-clean-only. And they're also stretched out and don't look that great anymore. How can I shrink them just a little bit to get them back to their original size? Oh, and any advice on preventing/removing pilling?
