Which books (or movies) have a similar survivalism theme as 'I am Legend' by Richard Matheson? The specific theme I'm looking for: one person, fighting to hold on to their sanity without the support of any other people. Not necessarily postapocalyptic, just a person struggling to maintain their humanity despite limited/no other human contact.

Doug Copp advocates finding a Triangle of Life and gives up to 10 tips for an earthquake situation that will ensure maximum survival of the people involved. But his findings and tips has been discredited by the American Red Cross (ARC) who sees it as challenge to their "Drop, Cover and Hold On" safety advice as applied to its use in USA. It said that buildings in the States are constructed to a higher standard which makes the DC&HO method , the one to use. I would have thought if the standards are all that stringent , finding a triangle of life would be much easier and ensure a greater survival quotient in the States, if it was the drilled into the students. You're stuck somewhere without food for two weeks. You only have fresh water .... and an unlimited supply of whisky. Let's say you have only a moderate tolerance for alcohol, gained by drinking three or four beers on Friday and Saturday nights. Let's say you're in average health with plenty of body fat. Do you drink the whisky for its sugar content, or will the cost to your body (for your liver and kidneys to process and remove the alcohol) outweigh the caloric benefit?

Which country will cope best with Global Warming over the next 50 years? As an Australian (living abroad), I used to think that Australia would endure the effects of Global Warming better than some more populous countries. But after reading about growing salinity problems, soil degradation and deforestation back home, now I'm not so sure. Are there any sources of information that detail the predicted effects over the course of the next 50 - 100 years for different areas of the world? And even better, I'd be very interested in detailed info focused on Australia, on a state-by-state basis.
