My white MacBook is in its death throes, and it's time to upgrade. Unfortunately, all my data is backed up to a FireWire drive, which the new MacBook doesn't support. What are my data transfer options, other than buying a MacBook Pro?

Need a web-based solution (self hosted, preferably free and open source) to keep track of support cases/tickets in such a way that they all go through one person, get assigned, and only the manager and assigned owner can see the ticket. Also needs to be able to support multiple owners for group work. If you know of something close please mention it as we can do some modification.

I am looking for a client management/help desk/support ticket... thing. Customers come into our stores with items to be repaired and I'd like to be able to allow stores to create ticket for each repair. I'd like for the system to retain information about the customer and the items they bring in... and be able to make notes to the account. What exactly am I looking for?

My step-father died unexpectedly about two months ago, leaving behind my mother and my 13-year old sister. We are going through the 'normal' grieving process, but I am worried about my family and how they will get by. Is there anything that I can do to help and should I move closer to them?

A friend was just fired from my department for somewhat vague reasons. I've heard the story from my friend, and the managers have yet to say anything to the rest of us. As far as I can tell, my friend did nothing scandalous, illegal, or that violated my employer's policies. My friend is also not lazy. Everyone in the department is confused, and our morale is clearly shot. How do I support my friend and my coworkers? How can I/we move on enough to get day-to-day work done?

In a nutshell: I'm an artist who got trapped in a day job and I no longer have enough available time to create new work. I'd like to raise money from corporate sponsors to help fund a 10 month period where I would paint some new work and then have it exhibited at my local museum. I am not interested in applying for grants because I already know it would be a waste of time for the type art I do. I guess what I need is guidance, tips, or at least a success story to give me some encouragement. Thanks.

How can I increase the range of my brand new Linksys WRT600N wireless router so that my wife's Dell Inspiron 1505 gets a better signal? My former router, a 3 year old Linksys model (WRT54G) seemed to send a much better signal, and I bought this new router thinking I'd see improvements a-plenty, but noooooo, and documentation is sorely lacking. Help! I really don't want to go back to the WRT54G, since surely this new router is more capable when set up properly, right?

Someone died and willed me a helpdesk... Ok, not really inherited, but in my current job I am now responsible for helping our helpdesk grow and run more smoothly. It's work that I enjoy. What I am missing, however, is an online forum or mailing list that allows me to communicate with other helpdesk managers and planners. I have looked around in various places, but have come up dry. Does anyone know of any resources along these lines?
