Received a replacement power supply for my Powerbook G4 today. The Apple power supply stats are "Input: AC 100-240V 50/60HZ 1.5A Ouput: 24.5V === 2.65A" The replacement supply reads "Input: 100-240V ~ 2.0A, 50-60HZ Ouput: 15-24V === 4.3A & 75W MAX". Is the new power supply incompatible with my Powerbook? [more inside]

My old laptop blew the motherboard after 3 years of great use (Acer Aspire 5670). I just bought a new laptop (Acer Extensa 5630Z). Can I use the power charger/AC Adapter from my old on my new without doing damage? The new one is rated 19V 3.43A. The old one is 19V 4.4A. (plugs are the same). Long live the hive mind!

Does anyone know of a company that makes a single file drawer? I mean in metal (or some other sturdy material, ie. hard plastic) like a file cabinet but with only one drawer. I found this, but this is carboard, so not good for my purposes, but the form is perfect. I've searched and searched on the internet and I can't find anything, but it seems like something that should exist. Can anyone help?

I'm trying to find angle iron uprights for industrial shelving. My small non-profit was given shelving (well, shelves) that we originally expected uprights to come with and they ended up without the uprights. I'm looking for angle iron around 8 ft(96inches) long, of reasonable strength, and with bolt holes running the length. Holes on the shelves are approximately 3/4" on center from the corner, but are oval. leads are appreciated as my google-fu has mostly failed me. thanks.

I'm taking up welding as a hobby and was hoping someone might know of a good metal supply shop that would be a open to hobbiest (i.e.: they are willing to sell small quantities and have weekend hours). I find that home depot and lowes offer a limited selection of steel, so it would be nice to find a place i can buy mechanical tube steel, small gage pipe, and other misc steel.

Electronics filter: What can I do to make a 24v PSU turn into a 18-19v PSU? It's 0.5A power supply which as far as I can tell is important to know when using, say a resistor to lower voltage. But how resistant should the resistor be? I've found information on how to tell a resistor's value, but not how it will actually effect a line's voltage or how to calculate it. Are there any good sites with this information? Also what will happen to the amount of amps the PSU supplies when I do change it to 18/19v?? Also, what can be done to increase the amperage of a power supply? What inside the circutry is actually dictating the amperage?

Here's a technical question. Will this motherboard work with a G3 (Mac) power supply? Gigabyte GA-6VTXD Also in the motherboard is an AMD Athlon 900Mhz. Is that fast? What's the comparison to Intel chips? I've never really understood the conversion. I thought it would be neat to use an old, unwanted G3 case for something like this. [more inside]

I am in the process of building an AMD Sempron 2400+ based file storage machine. I am seeking recommendation for how big a power supply I need. I am planning on 4 to 5 (may be 6 in future) 250GB Seagates, 2x320GB WD Sata drives, 1 DVD writer, Geforce FX 5500 video card. The $50 case has a stock 480W PSU. I am wondering if I need more juice and possibly something by a well known brand ? I recently built an Athlon box with Seasonic 430 PSU. Seems pretty quiet. Not sure if I should get another of those.

I don't know anything about business or whatever, so Sony's strategy for the PS2 makes no sense to me. My girlfriend wants to get me a PS2 for Christmas, but every place we've called has basically told us the same thing: everyone's sold out because Sony is shorting store's orders in order to drive up demand. They did pretty much the same thing a few years ago when the PS2 launched. It didn't make any sense to me then, and doesn't make any sense to me now. What kind of business sense does this make? What's the point of driving up demand for a product that they don't supply? Are they trying to set up sales beyond Christmas? But even then, don't they just risk people getting pissed off and something from their competitor? [more inside]
