Yummy easy vegan dry goods things I can make at work and eat in the PM?

I'm working long hours and have breakfast fixings set up in my office for when I skip eating til I get to work. I have oats, shredded coconut, sultanas, cinnamon and ginger to make porridge. Sometimes I add nuts. I go out for lunch if I haven't brought my own. But I'm often working back til late. What healthy pantry staples can I stock up on for the evening meal? [more inside]

How to prepare for disaster without going all Doomsday Preppers

I think it's not too tin-foil-hatty to say that we're getting more extreme weather because of climate change. Let's say you're city dwelling DINKs with a cat and you want to kit out one of those under bed storage boxes with supplies (food? candles? batteries? whiskey? tiny cat hard hat? I really have no idea) in case of extreme weather. What would you include? [more inside]

Can you recommend a basic "drawing package" of art supplies?

I was fortunate enough to score a portable camera Lucida via this Kickstarter project. It is a Christmas present for my crafty SO. I want to supplement the tool with a package of basic art supplies: paper, pencils, pastels, water colors. Nothing too advanced, just enough to allow him to explore his possible interest in the (very cool) equipment. I've searched such kits but am kind of overwhelmed by the hundreds of choices, and would appreciate some guidance. [more inside]

canine design

I'm going to get a pembroke corgi dog within the next year. Unfortunately, so many of the necessary supplies of dog ownership are just plain ugly. My apartment and my clothes reflect to me my love of all things beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. I love clean, sleek modern design AND ornate, vintage, antique things. Please show me the most beautiful dog related merchandise available! Crates, food/water bowls, leashes, anything and everything related to (beautifully) owning a dog.

Practical yet Attractive Uses for narrow-necked glass bottles?

I have a few old glass bottles which I've cleaned, de-labeled, and given airtight cork tops. They're attractive bottles, about 750ml each with narrow tops, and I'd like a practical way to show them off ideally in the kitchen. I already used one to infuse olive oil and other to hold my dried dried beans rather than leaving them tied up in the pantry. What else can do with them?
