I have a very wet unfinished basement. I have a sump & pump there. The sump is dirt floored, or more precisely, clay floored. It's got cement sides, but is otherwise just a hole dug into the earth beneath the basement. Can I get some sort of cement and pour it into the water such that I roughly pave the floor? I have no idea what I'm doing with this sort of thing. [more inside]
Last night we experienced a severe rainstorm. The pump failure or high water alarm on my sump pump woke us up at around 4:00 this morning. I fixed the problem, but I'm not sure what was wrong, why what I did worked, or if I have to do anything further. [more inside]
My sump pump currently has different ideas of when and how it should work than I do. I have a couple of questions about plumbing for the sump, and a question about whether there is something I can fix that will allow me to not replace it. [more inside]

Need a recommendation for a sump pump - preferably one with a battery backup. [more inside]
After having drainage and a sump pump installed in our basement, we’ve noticed an unusually large amount of groundwater being pumped out into the connecting dry well. We’d like to determine the source of this water, but, as usual, there are some unusual details…. [more inside]
What is this hole in my basement? and what should I do? [more inside]
I need to count how many times a sump pump runs in a given period. The sump pump pumps water out of a hole on the ground, it is activated by a float switch - so generally speaking it pumps the same amount of water out each time it runs (the volume of water from the top 'on' level to the lower 'off' level). I want to know how much water is being pumped per week/month/whatever. [more inside]
How can I figure out the difference in height between where my sump pump outlet sits at my house to where I want it to drain so I can assure gravity is helping it drain? [more inside]
I want to set up a 3gal nano reef tank (possible slightly larger, up to 10gal). I want the system to be as aesthetically pleasing as possible, namely by keeping any equipment out of sight. Could I just drill two holes in the tank, and use a powerful external canister filter, to filter the water and provide water movement? Or is a seperate powerhead necessary? In addition, is there an external way of heating the water, without the use of a sump? Thanks a lot.
Clueless homeowner question: Our sump pump (which has a battery for backup) is beeping and blinking, telling me to replace the battery. It looks like a car battery, but my son (he who knows how stuff works) is away ay school. What kind of battery do I get? Where do I get it? And, most scary, how do I (safely) unhook the old one and replace it with the new one. Don't assume I have even the most basic skills or knowledge.
How can I repair my sump pump drainage pipes so that they'll withstand sub-freezing temperatures? [more inside]
I have 2 related questions about sump pumps. 1) Will bleach damage the pump? 2) Is there a way to monitor the pump for failure (or the water level which would tell me the same thing) easily? [more inside]
