Where is a good place in the Poconos to rent 2-3 adjacent cabins near a lake in the Poconos? Needs to be kid/family friendly with full amenities including AC and kitchens. [more inside]
I need a change I'm looking for seasonal (/not career) jobs in the US that are not as people-heavy as being a camp counselor or tour guide. (Something like working at an information desk is OK.) Anywhere is OK as long as it's fairly easy to find housing, or housing is provided. [more inside]
What are your absolute favorite seasonal or holiday children's books? Bonus points: lovely illustrations; likely out of print or otherwise not on the front page of the relevant section of Amazon. [more inside]
I have a small container garden and I enjoy growing tomatoes. I've had mixed success. Some years, when the summer seems cooler, none of my tomatoes have ripened and I end up throwing out large amounts of rotten vegetables. How will global warming effect the ripening of my tomatoes? [more inside]
We need more fridge space - can I put a standard fridge outside? [more inside]
I live on the east coast and it's been very hot. I am worried about my cat in this heat - being covered in fur must suck right now. How can I help him be more comfortable? [more inside]

My partner and I are coming down for the weekend in early July: are there any interesting things happening that weekend worth checking out? [more inside]
My 4th of July plans seem to have exploded, and I'm trying to make a backup plan. Since it's a 3-day weekend, I'd like to go camping somewhere—but I'm expecting that all the decent campsites are going to be packed and I'd really like to avoid that. Do you have any suggestions for where I could go with a couple of friends to enjoy a little camping without having to deal with too many other people? [more inside]
I see a lot of lightweight articles of dubious scientific merit claiming that one should not shave down a dog's coat in the summer because it actually helps keep it cool during the summer. Can someone point me to actual science that upholds or refutes this claim? [more inside]
We have a 15 year old (entering 10th grade) staying with us for the summer, who needs significant help with math. He worked pretty hard this past semester to bring his math grade up to a C - and I don't want him to lose that knowledge. What can we do to work on his math skills this summer? Open to all ideas - books, online tutorials, games.
I've had great weight loss success by moving more and doing meal prep in advance. I don't love to cook, but in the winter I make chili, soups, and stews and portion them out into individual meal-sized containers for lunch and dinner. I'm happy to have found a system that works. Last summer I ate bean salads as well as fresh green salads with lots of veggies and chicken almost exclusively. The thought of doing that again just makes me want to eat out. [more inside]
I'd love to start grilling. Problems: I don't (yet) have a grill and I have a non-meat-eating partner. I have two specific questions: 1) Charcoal or gas? My dad says there's no easy answer to this... Benefits of each? Any specific grills you love or hate? 2) What can I grill for my vegetarian boyfriend? Recipes or resources would be amazing.
I'm looking to spend 7-10 days later this summer on vacation in New England. Areas of interest are Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, with Connecticut and Rhode Island as well if not too rushed. I would appreciate advice on feasibility but also would like to learn about neat things to visit in these states. [more inside]
My wife and I will be in Greece this summer from June 18-July 9. We're flying in and out of Athens. Aside from staying in the capital for a few days, we're not sure how to narrow down where else to go. If you were us (priorities after the jump), which destinations would you choose? [more inside]
I hate being home from school so much that I have spiraled back into depression and panic attacks. Help! [more inside]
What are your favorite drinks or cocktails that are both low carb and don't involve anything sugar-free? Even more caveats inside! [more inside]
I have a scratchy-bum cotton and who-knows-what-other-material couch I purchased at Goodwill many years ago. It sure was a steal, but now when it is hot in the summer, it's absolutely painful to sit in. [more inside]
I am planning a summer vacation with my son and Cali and NYC are up for consideration. I will have no transportation, staying with elderly family and it will be our first time in either places. What are some fun things -on a budget- to do there? [more inside]
Summer is coming! I love my apartment. It is large, it is in a wonderful neighborhood, it is affordable, it is also in Brooklyn (miracle!). However, I am from a Midwestern clime, and am hopelessly intolerant of summer heat. I have a basement apartment, so the windows that I have all have bars on them. [more inside]

Considering a family trip this summer. What's fun for a family in Montreal? [more inside]
MeFi, you've saved me in the past, asking you to come through again! I'm trying to find events very similar to WaterFire Providence, can be but does not have to be "art" project, but am looking for festivals that feature pylons in rivers, ponds, lakes, bayou on fire. Trying to set one up down here in Louisiana but not finding too much in the way of how to get started or if these events exist outside of Providence, RI and Sharon, PA (the only two places I found that host WaterFire events). Thank you!
I don't really want to go to Disney again. Looking for ideas for a family vacation. [more inside]
I have a garden bed in Sydney, Australia, that is in part shade, but it's clearly now too hot for the rocket and other lettuces that were in there, as they are all bolting as soon as they mature. What should I replace them with for the summer months? [more inside]
My room is SO HOT. Hotter than the rest of the house, probably about ten degrees hotter than outside. What can I do to cool it down? [more inside]
I found the dress now I need the rest! [more inside]
I've been into fashion for awhile, but I have yet to really learn much about makeup outside of bb cream, bold lips, and cateye eyeliner. I want to develop a more versatile daytime look for my (soft autumn) coloring/look. (Blonde hair, hazel eyes, warm + fair skintone.) [more inside]
Hi. When I'm walking around, the sun is unpleasantly bright and hot, which makes me wonder: How much stuff, and what type of stuff, would we have to dump into the sun in order to stop fusion from happening? Or is there no such amount of anything? [more inside]
I'm heading to NYC for a short, 5-6 day trip starting tomorrow! I did a bit of planning myself, but I'll be on kind of a tight budget (I'm staying with a family member in Queens). Any fun things I should check out while I'm there from July 17 - 22? I love: music, food, festivals (of any kind) and especially anything comedy-related. Thanks!
I live in the Deep South; everyone goes to the beach for vacation. I hate the beach in the summertime (it is way too hot). Where should my wife & go on vacation this summer? I would like a cold, deep lake to swim in, hiking trails, and some privacy. She would like a cottage or cabin on said lake. Would prefer an area that is LGBT friendly (will settle for agnostic), and that we can get to on Delta (we have vouchers to burn).
My wife & four kids & I will be in St. Paul for a long visit in the middle of July. What should be on our schedule -- both things new in the last few years, and time-tested favorites? I grew up in St. Paul but moved away a long time ago; we bring the kids out in the summer to spend time with family. We haven't been out in a couple of summers, so I want this one to be awesome! [more inside]
Western exposure, hot sun, polluted air, old masonry - Summer brings good things, but also a terrible smell to my apartment. So I have an indoor air quality question. [more inside]
I'm looking for those "Wowza!" gourmet dishes and touches that impress guests, but in the summertime BBQ category. What are your tricks for easily making a BBQ fancy, different or impressive, instead of the same old burgers and dogs?
I live in a 130-year-old house modernized with air conditioning that works reasonably well keeping the house a decent temperature through the summer. However, my kid's room gets warmer than any other room in the house. [more inside]

It’s getting to be summer, when a young man’s thoughts turn inevitably to aw yiss summer jams. But I’ve been hearing awesome US summer jams for nigh 40 summers now, and I would like exposure to non-US summer jams. I’ve applied my sun block, packed my beach towel, and I want you to take me on a summer jam journey around the world. [more inside]
I hate the feeling of the hot summer sun on my skin. What type of hat should I get to keep the sun off of me? I am an early 30s male living in Philadelphia. My style is pretty casual and I likely being wearing jeans and a t-shirt in the situations where I would wear this hypothetical hat I don't need to look cool in the hat, but I'd strongly prefer to not look goofy in it. I'd prefer to spend less than $100 but I am flexible on that.
I need summer fashion role models. [more inside]
I'm looking for casual, stylish summer pants. [more inside]
I need summer shoes that are appropriate for my dark-colours, femme-with-an-edge aesthetic. Difficulty: my ankles roll (and then I fall), and my hand surgeon has emphasized I must do everything in my power to avoid slipping/falling this summer. What flat, good-grip summer shoes provide ankle support? [more inside]
During the winter, I wear my Born boots to work with all my skirts and dresses. (They're similar to these) But what do I wear in the summer?? [more inside]
I just moved into a new apartment and there's a huge open attic that's all mine. I'm in the process of turning it into studio space, but as a renter I can't make significant modifications. It's going to get very hot this summer and I'm worried it'll become unbearable. Has anyone used the rolls of radiant barrier foil? It sounds like a good solution, but dropping a bunch of cash on something that might be woo makes me nervous. [more inside]
