I just published an indie sci-fi novel and it's kicking serious ass on Amazon. I have also just been offered a career assignment that may or may not be a big leg up in teaching, but it would eat up a lot of my writing time. I'm not sure how dedicated I am to teaching anymore. Am I letting short-term success run away with me? I'll try to keep the special snowflakes short.

My mom is a retired elementary school teacher (in Cleveland, Ohio). She is hurting for cash a little more than she expected she would, and would like to teach again on a substitute/tutoring basis. How does she go about doing so in a manner that she can earn a decent salary?

My job on a university campus entails incrementally building relationships with faculty and administrators over the course of many years. In the fall of 2012, I will be subbing for a director on a different campus for one semester. It doesn't make as much sense to slowly build relationships because I will be returning to my home campus in Spring 2013. Yet, I still want to be proactive. What is a good framework for thinking about a one semester cameo on a new campus?

I have been thinking about getting a
tonerite for guitar. I have no doubt that they work, but don't really wanna spend $150.00. I am trying to think of a less expensive, but suitable substitute that will vibrate the instrument in the same way. I am thinking an aquarium aerator with its tiny motor may fit the bill. Tell me how wrong I am and why. Any other ideas for a sub for the tonerite?

I made
this casserole last night for dinner, and it was quite tasty. I'd like to add it into my regular rotation of suppers, but the gruyère cheese is kind of expensive at my local market. Can you suggest a more pedestrian cheese I can use instead? I guess it would have to be something that was similar in hardness/melting point. (Similarity in taste would be nice, but I realize with supermarket cheeses I can't have everything).

I know there have been some other questions on SAD lamps, but I'm more interested in whether they actually do make a difference. Anecdotal and empirical evidence are both sought after. Also, recommendations in the UK.

I'm trying to locate a non-alcoholic drink I had at a wedding several years ago. It was called "Amie" and came in white and red varieties (being marketed, I believe, as a wine substitute).
