Erotica Suggestions?

Looking for erotica suggestions (NSFW text inside) I am looking for suggestions for erotica with certain specifics. I would prefer it to be in book form if possible but internet is okay. If it is on the internet it needs to be publicly available (no payment) and preferably sorted by genre.

It needs to be at least edited and decently written would be preferable. Close to short story length would be best but longer or shorter is okay if it is worth it. The things that most interest me are:

-Submission, especially by women, either to men or other women
-Multiple men with one woman
-Some forms of coercion such as difficulty with paying rent
-Light bondage

Please DO NOT include anything with incest, bestiality, anything like that. I also really do not want any fan fiction of any variety. I am not particularly interested in erotica with two men but I don't really mind its being suggested.

Please don't lecture me on my tastes. I am a woman and I already have a complicated relationship with my sexuality. My interests do not mean that I condone negative sexual attitudes towards women.

If you don't want to post here I can be reached at sake.of.privacy@gmail.com

Query email format?

Should I maintain double spacing in an agent query email? Submission guidelines ask for the first 5 pages of my manuscript. How faithful should I be to the actual document? Hey there all, I just wanted to get some backup on this. I am sending a query to an agent and his submission guidelines ask for the first five pages, pasted into the body of the email.

If I was sending a copy of the manuscript in Word format, it would be double spaced. Should I send the 5 pages in the email in this format? It would be nice to get a little more content in there by single spacing it in the email, but I don't want to annoy him.

So, should I a) double space it and send the first 5 actual pages; b) single space the same content as a); or c) send 5 single spaced pages?

I kind of think the answer involves sending the content of 5 double spaced pages, I just wanted to see if anyone had any on the ground experience with this.

Thank you very much!!

Submit story just before deadline?

I would like to submit a short story to literary journals whose reading period ends April 30. Obviously, they will receive the story just before deadline. Am I wasting my time and opportunity doing this? Should I wait until the submission period reopens, usually September or October?

I wrote a short humorous topical piece that I would like to get published online. It was in the right format (a short list) for McSweeney's, but they rejected it.

What other well-read online humor sites accept outside submissions? I am not looking for payment, just to get it published.

Learning how to say, "yes, sir!" (and staying myself in the process)

How did you get through prolonged periods of doing something you didn't believe in or agree with? I'm shitty at compromising myself. This trait is often a strength, but at the moment it presents difficulties. I just started nursing school which I knew before I started would be a challenge since I'm not a fan of Western medicine, arbitrary rules make me crazy, and I generally fail to keep my mouth shut when I disagree with my 'superiors'. I figured when I signed up for this that if I can just make it through school and my first couple years of work, I'll have the flexibility to find a job where I have a degree of autonomy and where I'm promoting a type of health care that I feel good about (I'm thinking some kind of health education work or possibly hospice). But the problem is making it through the next couple years.

So far I've already had some head butting with the instructors and administration at my school. Worse is when I go to the hospital for my clinical shifts: I feel unhappy, depressed, defeated. I hate seeing how things are done there - the ways that hospitals fail to promote health (shitty food, waking people up all night to take vitals, a million students poking and prodding, docs who don't remember or have time to get to know patients, etc)

So what are some strategies for making it through someone else's way of doing things when you think that way is wrong? How do you maintain your own sense of self while sticking with the program? How do you jump through hoops without feeling like a circus animal?

Crash Course in MMA Submission Grappling

I just signed up for a submission only MMA tournament taking place mid june, I have 4 years HS wrestling experience, ZERO MMA experience... help? The Essentials:

● I entered a 4 tiered submission-only (no striking) MMA round robin grappling tournament.

● The tournament is in 2 weeks. A match consists of one, 5 minute period.

● I will be in the beginner experience level (less than 18 months experience) since I have a wrestling background. (4 years highschool, 4 time state-attendee)

● I am 140lbs, which is 15lbs less than their smallest weight class (155lbs)

● I know nothing about submission holds. I am vaguely aware of something called the "guard" and something called an "arm bar".

● I am worried that some of my wrestling habits will hurt me on the under the rules of MMA submission.

■ What should I do between now and then?
■ What submissions are best for a n00b/experienced wrestler (who is used to winning by pinning the opponent's shoulders to the mat)?

Any advice or opinions will be heard! Thanks
How do I best submit my short film to as many festivals as possible?

A comprehensive short-film festival submission calender: Does such a thing exist? I am in post production on a non-verbal short film. It could be considered a dance film (it involves dancers), an experimental film (in involves a woman going through a series of effect-driven physical transformations, breaking apart into many people and then coming back, whole and powerful) or a music video (it is the length of a song and the song is amazing) but I consider it to be a non-verbal dramatic narrative short about becoming who you are. It could be considered to be the story of any immigrant, anyone who has gone through adolescence or experienced a spiritual/physical transformation.

It is the best thing I have ever made in terms of production values and I want to submit it to all the festivals I can. It is the type of film that may garner awards in the right forums. Is there a resource - a website, perhaps - that lists all the festivals looking for short content and their deadlines?

I would also be interested if anyone has any tips as to how I could seek out international distribution. The lyrics of the song are not in English or French (Portuguese, in fact), though the production is based in Canada. You don't need to understand the words in order to get the meaning of the piece. What that means to me is that this film has global distribution potential.

Please point me to resources to better understand "switching" in BDSM.

Please point me to resources that describe the phenomenon of "switching" by some BDSM participants. Some of the answers to this question reminded me of how I wish I better understood switching in BDSM. (For the curious: Wikipedia, one description, another.) I'm not asking, "how can anyone be that way?" or if it is "normal" -- as far as I'm concerned, if it makes you happy and no puppies are harmed, all is good. I'm curious because although I am kink-friendly and have been so for a long time, almost all of my direct experience, and most of the depictions I have seen in books/films/etc, are of people comfortable staying in one role.

The question: I am looking for descriptions of how it feels to switch between such different roles, how the dynamics of this can work within a relationship, and how these roles get negotiated. Basically, I'm asking "how does switching work, in real life?"

In addition to whatever direct descriptions get provided here, I would particularly appreciate suggestions of thoughtful and well-written blogs, articles, essays, or forums that address this issue, as well as novels and films. Gay/straight/bi/other are fine. The only literary example I can think of is the main character in the Story of O, who spends the first half of the book as a submissive and transitions later in the book into more of a dominant role; there must be others that address this in a more grounded and contemporary sort of way. A lot of what I found via Google was very jargony, very play-party oriented, very formulaic; I'm looking for more nuanced and rich descriptions that get at the contradictions, compromises, and complications of living that identity.

If you aren't comfortable replying here, you can send me a MeFi mail, or send an anonymous email to the address in my profile. (I have read the previous AskMe questions with the "bdsm" tag, which have hints to this but don't address it directly. Google searches haven't produced the exact results I am looking for, either, aside from the links I gave above -- if you are providing answers via a search, please give pointers as to how you got there.)

Help for a couple starting to experiment with a D/s relationship. My partner and I have been starting to experiment with a Dominant/submissive sexual relationship. I am the submissive, she is the dominant. I've been looking for a good way to let her know that I'm in the mood to play. Are there any good ways to stay submissive and still initiate?
I submitted two films to Cannes. The next morning I noticed that the two DVD packages I prepared with the entry numbers and everything were still in my bag. Whoops! Looks like I sent them unmarked discs. The cases I sent them have my contact info and the envelopes I shipped them in have the entry numbers written on them, but the actual DVDs are completely blank. Should I send a new package or will that confuse things further?

Help me figure out why I seem to predominantly attract sexually submissive guys.

Help me figure out why I seem to predominantly attract sexually submissive guys. I have a more or less set type, young feminine guys, but I meet guys from very different backgrounds, from professionals to school drop-outs, with different looks and characteristics. What puzzles me is that despite that variety, a very high percentage of them turns out to be very submissive in bed. When I say high percentage, I mean about 4 out of 5. It’s always been something that reveals itself in flagrante, so it’s not like I specifically seek out guys that communicate that as their preference in an ad, at the club, etc. The degree of sexual submission also varies substantially, and in my experience has been all over the road – from low (holding down, hair pulling) to medium (spanking, slapping) to pretty serious (being bound, rape fantasies). They also tend to be not very submissive outside the bedroom.

I am dominant in bed but that to me just means control and overpowering resistance. More specifically, I am talking about sort of rough physical control, physically directing the action, holding someone down, and so on. I don’t like submission qua submission because by definition, there is no resistance factor, and I feel almost awkward knowing that I can simply tell the person to do anything and they will do it. I also don’t like BDSM because the ritualistic aspects of it seem to take away spontaneity, and the formalized gear seems very depersonalizing. I enjoy stuff like spanking and hair pulling, not because it causes the other person some discomfort, but because it makes me feel more in control of the situation. Inflicting pain by itself is not at all appealing to me. I've never experienced or even contemplated being the submissive person. That has no instinctive appeal to me.

My main questions are, 1. Why do I attract submissive guys?, 2. What, if anything, does that say about my personality?, and 3. What nature / nurture factors may contribute to someone being naturally dominant or naturally submissive?

To the extent that physical characteristics may have something to do with it, I am gay, male, 26, 6’0, 180, exclusively top, good-looking in a sort of all-American way, muscular, straight-acting but wouldn’t call myself macho. As far as non-physical characteristics: I’m very confident in myself and my abilities in sort of a quiet, understated way (not arrogant), introverted, self-deprecating humor, rational to a fault in my emotions, very good at having an innate anticipation of what the other person wants to hear (ironically, kind of a people-pleaser). More specific to control, etc.: I am never the first person to jump in and take charge, and I usually remain content to let someone else take the lead unless I believe they are going off-course, at which point I take over. Socially, I am more of an observer than an active participant. At the same time, I am used to people deferring to me in areas that I believe are within my expertise. When I meet people in clubs or bars, I never try to consciously project or exert some authority over them, don't ask them about their sexual preferences, and don't consciously try to establish myself as the dominant person in the conversation.

Thanks to everyone for any ideas, hypotheses, suggestions. If you have any questions, I’m at anon5262@gmail.com.

WP image submit with captcha?

Kinda strange Wordpress plugin request: We're looking for a contact form with image submission that also employs a captcha or similar form of validation. Our blog allows folks to submit images for 'critiquing.' Lately the spambot freakazoids have found us and the erectile dysfunction ads are now rife. Hourly. Ugh.

We've posted to WordPress forums but no one seems to know of a plugin that allows for image submissions and includes a captcha process.

D/s: Help me be a good dominant

D/s: Help me be a good dominant. I only recently discovered this part of myself (never knew how far I leaned in this direction until I met someone who's probably just as submissive). So far I think I've done well going by instincts and imagination - she is very turned on, and I'm enjoying myself. But we're still learning about ourselves, and while I'd like very much to lead, I confess I don't really know that much.

Can you give me any tips, advice, wisdom from experience? Recommendations for books and websites to learn from? And, a few questions I have right now:

1) Does being dominant mean you can no longer really show significant weakness or vulnerability to your submissive partner?
2) How do you know if you're a "natural dominant" or if you're just running high on ego from having someone give herself completely to you?
3) Can you give me any ideas as to more games we can play: ways I can tease her, use her, deny her, get her to follow orders, turn her on, push her boundaries (safely)? I love to use my imagination and creativity, and I have been - but would certainly love more ideas to play with.

I'm sure I have more questions, but that's the specific ones I can think of right now. Any help much appreciated!

Tell me (a girl) how to sex up my partner like he wants: with me in charge!

My partner wants me to dominate him. That's totally not my style, and his pickiness makes it harder, but I'm trying my best, and it's working! Up to a point. (NSFW text inside.) I know a lot of this stuff is sensitive -- I completely understand, since I'm the shy, quiet type, and IRL I don't discuss my sex life at all with anyone I'm not having sex with -- so you can e-mail me at tryingtotop at gmail if you don't want to answer publicly.

I've known for quite awhile, and I made it clear to him from the very beginning, that I'm submissive in that I enjoy having my partner take charge. I also found out, with him, that I really enjoy being spanked and bitten and similar not-very-painful fun. He's okay with some of that stuff, but not with tying me up (something I want to try). When he's been in charge, he hasn't yet done anything more hardcore, really, than biting me and calling me names (which I don't like but he does).

Over the same months, he has been encouraging me to take charge of the situation. It's not that I don't initiate (I totally do -- I have a high sex drive and I'm clear about it), but it's very hard for me to forcefully take command -- which, of course, is what he's slowly revealing to me that he wants. It's really hard for me, mostly due to my nature, but also because even if we were both 100% vanilla, the sexual power would still be all on his side: he is older than me, he has tons more experience (he is my first partner), and he can physically overpower me.

Also, he is really picky about what he likes in that area. He also doesn't want to discuss kink -- he wants it to come up spontaneously in the middle of sex sessions, because (his explanation) what we might say no to normally could sound like a great idea when we're turned on. This means I have to walk a fine line between being creative and careful -- when I misstep by trying something he's not into, he gets grossed out and turned off, and shuts me down hard. As discouraging as that is, it's not something I can blame him for; I'd get turned off if he brought up a kink that grossed me out.

Anyway, I've found some things that seem to work, although the menu's pretty limited by his pickiness (list below). For example, we can make out while I undress him, then I can order him to sit apart and watch while I slowly strip and touch myself. (This alone represents a huge advance for me -- I do not like to order people around.)

Trouble is, when it comes time for him to get into the picture, everything goes haywire. The moment he touches me, I turn into a giant jelly -- moaning for him and totally at his mercy. I melt completely. Whatever toughness I have conjured up disappears. Obviously, that's no good for him -- he wants a girl who will sit on his face and ride him brutally without regard for anything but her own pleasure, but he's got a girl who, the instant she lowers herself onto his face, turns into a whimpering, begging mess. When I start going soft that way, it doesn't matter that we got to that point because I ordered him to lie down, hold still, and shut up.

So I guess my question is actually a couple of related questions. First, how can I overcome this? I'm sure it's related to my inexperience, but I've been doing this with him for a few months now and the way it affects me isn't lessening at all.

Second, what else can we/I do? "You sit over there and watch me" only goes so far. I mean if that's the setup for the third time in a row, he's got to be pretty bored with it by then.

Things I have established he is not okay with (aka really hard limits): pain, including mild discomfort like ice cubes; restraint, even light stuff with scarves; humiliation; anything nonsexual (e.g. making him do household chores); anything long-distance or outside of an encounter (e.g. telling him not to masturbate for a week); anything whatsoever going up his ass.

D/S-ish things I am sure he likes: me physically dominating him (being on top, sitting my full weight on him, physically forcing him to do things) -- tough because he is stronger than me; me ordering him around; (the idea of) me peeing on him -- I am not into it but okay with it, and trying, but it hasn't really worked yet (shy bladder I guess).

Other stuff I know he likes, in rough order: 69; eating pussy; being rimmed -- doesn't happen, I will play with his ass, but not with my mouth; blowjobs -- this totally makes me feel like the in-charge amazon he wants to see, but my mouth is occupied so I can't talk about it; playing with my butt (his fingers and tongue, nothing bigger yet) -- but this makes me feel super-submissive; dirty talk -- I am not good at it, although I am not embarrassed to try I seem to word things wrong.

Other technical stuff: We do not have PIV or anal sex, and we do not plan to (we are both 100% okay with this). We have not yet tried tittyfucking, intracrural sex, or other forms of outercourse -- I would totally try them (I love dry humping, so I feel like that bodes well), but I'm not sure how he feels about this stuff. Right now we deal with oral, oral, and more oral (and he also uses fingers and vibes on me). Sex is super-marathon -- when we see each other, it tends to be for 15-20 hours at a stretch, and in that time we take breaks pretty much only to eat, nap, and talk.

So how can all these preferences combine in some way that works for him and leaves me in charge?

Last question, I swear: I really want to call him names, but what? When he takes charge, sometimes he'll call me slut and whore (both of which I really dislike and consider very inaccurate, and they make me worry that's how he sees me) and bitch (which I dislike less, I guess since it doesn't specifically relate to promiscuity). I have been clear and told him how I feel; he doesn't get it, but says he'll try to stop, but when he's about to come it's not unusual for him to forget. I want to call him names partly so he realizes what it's like for me, but also because if he likes it, I want to try to understand why so maybe I can learn to like it too.

But due to years of cultural weighting, calling a guy a slut or whore is more likely to elicit laughter than shame. Can I still call him a bitch, or would that be weird? Is there anything else I can call him instead? "Slave" or "servant" or whatever would be way too hardcore for us (I definitely would not want him to address me by title as "mistress" or whatever). Also, he's not into humiliation, so I can't make fun of his (big, beautiful) dick or (highly developed) oral skills. Basically I want something to tack onto the ends of commands: "Get on your knees . . . bitch." Would calling a guy "bitch" work in that context? What else?

Thanks, MeFi -- again, you can privately e-mail tryingtotop @ gmail if you don't want to answer here!

How do you know what to do during sex?

How do you know what to do during sex? I'm 30/f/hetero. Asperger's (but aren't we all). I tend to be very submissive in bed, but mostly it's because I can't think of anything to do. I would love to be more aggressive or even dominant. In theory, it sounds really appealing, but in practice I just have no idea. Books, tv, magazines say that you should just "go with it" and "do whatever feels good". But I end up feeling lost. My mind goes blank, and I focus on the details so much that I am paralyzed. For my whole life, I've had to work hard to learn how social interactions work, and I feel like this is an aspect of that, but there's no place for me to learn it. Unless porn is an accurate representation of sex (which I'm led to believe that it isn't). I just feel like I've never learned how sex progresses. Are there sex scripts? Helpful books? Podcasts (yes, I'm kidding)? How do you know what to do? If you have further questions or private advice: blank.lostinbed@gmail.com

What's a good venue to publish an essay on Dan Clowes?

What's a good venue to publish an essay on Dan Clowes? I've written one. It's very long--maybe three to four thousand words and more like the kind of thing you'd find in TLS or the New York Review. So, it's more thoughtful than the typical comics essay, but it's about a theme that general interest literary magazines usually don't cover (comics). The ideal venue for it would be a general interest magazine (like those I mentioned above or the New Republic, etc.) as I use Clowes as a springboard to talk about larger issues of irony, kitsch, hipsterism, authenticity. Also, I spend some time "translating" Clowes for a general audience--something that readers of the Comics Journal don't really need.

I've tried a few journals but they either have enough graphic novel content or don't publish stories on graphic novels. I'm thinking of a magazine somewhere between the London Review of Books or the Boston Review on the one hand and The Baffler, The Believer, N+1, hermenaut on the other. Any tips?

Bit by my own dog.

My own dog just bit me. Why, and how do I deal with this? My dog, Sam, is a probably St. Bernard/Golden mix about three years old, whom I rescued from a neglectful and possibly abusive home, though I don't know for sure, only suspect, about two years ago. He's a wonderful dog, friendly and goofy with all people, gets along wonderfully with my aging greyhound, and most other dogs- until he's tired. Then he gets grumpy, and will growl at any dog near him, though he's never attacked Hobie, my greyhound.

I'm keeping my friend's dog, a pit bull, for the weekend while she and her husband are out of town, and he and Sam get along wonderfully, they played all day yesterday and most of the morning today. An hour ago, Sam was getting tired, and starting to growl at Tank (my friend's dog) a bit. I noticed but before I could seperate the two, Sam went after him, snarling and biting at his face and neck. Tank didn't fight back, only tried to get away, but Sam wouldn't let up, despite my yelling at him to stop. I approached from the side and reached down for Sam's collar, at which point he snapped his head around and bit me on the arm. He didn't break the skin, and Tank got away and ran outside.

I am not so surprised or upset that Sam bit me, having reached for him during a fight, but when I held his muzzle shut and told him NO, and then popped him on the ass, he continued to growl and snarl at me, even after realizing it was me, his Mom, and this is what upsets me.

This is my dog who is normally goofy, happy, and loves me. I sleep curled up with him at night, he usually exhibits a Golden Retriever type demeanor. I've always known he's grumpy when tired, but he's never gone after me before, and even forgiving that, I am shocked and upset that he would continue to growl and snarl when I was reprimanding him. Does he just not think of me as the alpha, or what? I can't be okay with a dog who will bite and snarl at me, and despite all my very wounded feelings, I'm worried that the next time something like this happens he will bite again. How do I handle this?

Using javascript, what would be the most efficient way to reduce a multi-word string down to just the first word? The site takes a "first name/mi/last name" submission all in one field, rather than separate fields for each. I want to grab just the first name out of the submitted field. I realize the best solution would be to change the form to separate the fields but that's not an option at the moment.

Getting a CD reviewed

Any tips on what to include/mention in order to get my self-released CD reviewed by online music publications? I've just finished my first EP, and I'm planning on sending it around to a few music review sites to get some exposure. It's literate, quirky, guitar-based indie pop. Has anyone done anything like this successfully? What should I send with it? I had planned on sending the CD in its jewel case with respective artwork as well as a letter. The letter I've prepared talks about me a bit, describes my music and its subject matter in a (hopefully) interesting way, talks about my influences, and mentions my web site. It's about half a page long. I'm confident about my music and I think it speaks for itself, but is there anything else I should do to increase my chances of having someone actually listen to it/review it?

I'm planning on sending it to pitchfork, tinymixtapes, and popmatters at the moment. Any other recommendations for sites which would be likely to review it? I don't want to send out a million, but let me know if there's anything I've overlooked.

Seeking advice from MetaFilter artists on proposing a gallery project proposal.

Anyone out there well-versed or versed in the protocol for submitting proposals for art projects to open call gallery shows? I'm a non-artist (maybe a dilettante is a better way to put it) who would like to submit an idea for a (two-dimensional, text-based) project to a gallery show soliciting submissions on a certain theme. The gallery asks for a proposal (which I can do), a resume (which I can do) a portfolio of previous work (none) and- here's what I'm wondering about- "a sketch of the proposed project."

Can you give me some tips on what they might expect? The project in miniature? On "nice," gallery-quality materials? Is pasting ok? How approxiamate vs. how final? How big, relatively (the final version would be parge- about 7 feet by 7 feet)? Is pasting ok, with a few rough edges? And how big is too big? Is 8.5 by 11 the standard, if there is such a thing as a standard?

The gallery is a large, NYC-based one that sepcializes in "open-call" shows around broad-based themes. My idea is more concept and ideas in print, rather than a traditional fine art piece such as a sculpture or painting.

Thanks for any and all advice from a somewhat naive novice.
