A question about friendship and subletting, with
loads of little snowflake details inside. In short: what is the honorable thing to do when a friend decides to move abroad and sublet their part of a small two-bedroom apartment?

I'm worried I've entered into a completely unreasonable subletting agreement, and don't know how to get out or to solve the situation.

I'm renting an apartment in Somerville, MA. My landlord has given me permission to have a roommate. He seems, however, resistant to the idea of putting said potential roommate on the lease (I suppose it's more work for him..?). How should I approach renting out a room in my place?

Looking for help on becoming a good, legal, and happy subletter in Seattle. I recently bought my own home and am considering renting out the front-side bedroom. I'd like help knowing the right legal/tax steps to take, a good idea of price range, as well as precautions and things to avoid (

My friend, renting a room in a house, has found that the people he was renting from didn't actually own the house. He came home to find an eviction notice on his door and the locks changed. The fake landlords have moved all of their stuff out, changed their phone number, and are gone without a trace. Now my friend can't get to his stuff.

My new roommate (of 2 weeks) lied to me about why the gas was turned off. I'm subletting, and I'm getting out. Do I have any option for recourse?

My boyfriend and I moved into an apartment with a classmate of his almost 2 years ago. We found a place in Park Slope, Brooklyn, which is notoriously expensive but which we were able to all afford by splitting the rent three ways. Our room was really big, with room for both our desks and a bed. His room is about half the size but he also got the whole hall closet. Now that my boyfriend and I have broken up and he's moved out, we have a little problem.

I'm subletting an apartment for the summer (June-August). Is it sketchy to be asked to give the original lessee three checks—two pre-dated for July 1st and August 1st respectively—at the signing? It seems slightly odd, but not necessarily sketchy.

Appartment management companies have rediculously high credit requirements in Los Angeles. Is it legal for my mother to rent an appartment and for me and my roommate to just live there and pay rent? My mother would not be living there and the managment company probably wouldnt know. If this is not legal, what is the legal action that the management copany can take? This managment company does not accept co-signors. Please help!

What are the possible repercussions (legal or otherwise) of subletting my bedroom which has, in the past three months, been treated for a mild bedbug infestation? We discovered bedbugs in our apartment earlier this year. We treated the apt ourselves (very thoroughly, though) and I purchased a new bed. I have gotten a few bites over the past few weeks but am planning to have a professional extermination of my room before I leave. I have not said anything to the subletter. I am wondering what the subletter could do if, god forbid, he/she is bitten over the course of the summer. I feel I have dealt with this problem responsibly and thoroughly but I know there is no guarantee that he/she will be bite-free during his/her stay. Could I be sued? More generally, is it totally unethical of me to sublet given the situation - especially given the fact that I have not mentioned any of this to the subletter?
