Being my...self? Or, hanging a wet blanket out to dry.

After years of isolation and with no clear sense of self, how do I start and maintain real, substantive relationships, both romantic and platonic? I've tried Meetups, wine and art nights, etc. Help me avoid becoming a hermit. [more inside]

PotFilter: The cure for what ails me?

Tokers of Mefi! I'm hoping you can help me make the most educated and effective choice when I go to restock my herb tomorrow. I'm looking to replicate what for me, as someone dealing with cerebral palsy, (and because of it, a pronounced and profoundly isolating stutter), was a life-changing experience with MJ, one that came about a year after my first encounter with the herb. Stutter filter: what can I do to best set a stutterer at ease?

I have a phone screen later this morning. The recruiter just emailed me "I thought to make you aware he has a slight stutter however he is still perfectly understandable." My understanding is that stuttering has in part something to do with confidence and comfort. How can help the candidate here? [more inside]

Is your voice like handwriting? Can you improve the quality and pleasantness of your default voice (pitch, intonation, etc) like you can with penmanship so that the changes you focus on become the default? Or will you always be in some way "singing" your words?

Worsening stuttering

I've had a very mild stutter since early adolescence. I'm 30 now. For most of this time, I had it under control such that I was able to go through high school, college, a few years of working, and law school without anyone ever being aware of it. It was always there to some extent, but it never posed a real problem and never weighed too heavily on my mind. The stutter has gotten significantly worse just in the past couple months though, and is beginning to affect both my quality of life and my job. [more inside]

I'm looking for music that features really good stutter processing of vocal sounds (any really good stuttering of other sounds is welcome too, but I'm especially interested in vocals). Benchmark tracks would be Trentemoller's Moan, Modeselektor's 2000007, Funkstörung's Fat Camp Feva, Ellen Allien's Sehnsucht, and Look at Me by Villeneuve. [more inside]

How can I get rid of a stutter (on a computer)?

All audio on my Windows XP machine stutters. Not constantly, but enough to make listening to music or watching movies annoying. YouTube videos, iTunes tracks - anything. Even if I give priority to those applications. I'm on a Windows XP machine with a 3.2 ghz Pentium 4 and 1.50gb of RAM. Realtek HD drivers. I've tried everything on the Web and on AskMeFi but none of it has changed the stutter yet. So I'm opening this up for debate.

VLC and skipping DVDs.

Hi, Netflix DVDs in my wife's Toshiba Satellite skips considerably more than my macbook. She has a "tssp" dvd drive and I've got a Matsushita. Is it possible to configure VLC with some sort of monster video buffer so it will skip less? I'm familiar with other disk buffing/cleaning solutions, and am primarily curious about a software solution--VLC, mplayer, or anything else--to use in addition to cleaning the dvd. We've got to get through the rest of Monk, season four without going insane.
