Help my wife choose a Patisserie School

My wife has recently been given the chance to follow one of her dreams and go to school to learn how to make pastries and cakes via a generous financial situation, so we are seeking the hive minds help to find a good patisserie course that she could take. The only limitations are that I want to go with her and due to my job, she can probably only do a maximum of 2 - 3 months, so a course that's longer than that would be a no-go. However, she is willing to travel (and relishes the idea), so please suggest any school you like, regardless of the location. Related to this, she is currently considering going to Paris (obviously), but is worried about the language barrier, so any comments on that side would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

Parlez vous ├ęducation?

I am in Seattle. I'd like to learn French, to the point where I could (in 6 months, say) carry on a rough conversation with someone in Qu├ębec or France. I have knowledge of a few words but would essentially be starting from scratch. With which group/center/school should I take classes, but most importantly: why? (In other words, what would make that class better than those offered through alternatives?)

Lacking academic motivation...

It's finals week. It's an hour before my calculus exam as I'm typing this out right now. I finished up my reviewing, written up my formula sheet (we're allowed to bring handwritten notes on one 8.5x11 piece of paper). Still, I feel like I'm going to fail the class. If I'm lucky enough, I'll pass the class with a C. [more inside]

Help me relearn how to learn!

I have just started my PhD, full time on teaching/research fellowship, in the same field I did my masters and bachelors degrees. This is my first semester, and I am expected to take the qualifying exams in January. Problem is, I seem to have forgotten a lot. I have been out of school for five years since my masters, and, studying for the quals, even topics that I have covered before, nothing seems to 'stick' to memory. [more inside]

Online school for programming?

My boyfriend is hoping to find a really nice online programming study that results in a Bachelor's degree - his goal is to work on games, but we figure that non-game-based online schools could be just as helpful, and cost-effective. (Learn normal programming, and then just adjust courseload later on to take a couple of game programming classes and take a lot of C++ and usual game languages.) Does anyone have recommendations for such online study programs? [more inside]

Learn Math Via Programming?

I have always been horrible at math, but somehow a great programmer. I have found that writing a computer program that demonstrates a certain mathematical concept enables me to better understand the concept. I'm a psych major and I brought this up once in the research lab I've been working in. My prof said he recalls that someone did research and/or created a system in which a student writes a computer program that is pertinent to a certain mathematical concept and upon completion is given the regular math problem (as it would appear in a math class). This enables the student to better understand the math problem, solve, and learn math. Has anyone heard of this or anything similar? A learning system such as this would be a blessing to my education. Thanks.

Summer program for 15 yr old NYC?

Can you recommend a summer program, August - Sept, for a bright 15 year old girl living in Queens, NYC? My niece is very smart, loves dance and theater and wants to excel academically. She's starting to make choices that aren't ideal, and (unrelated) do somewhat poorly in Math. I would love to find a program in Queens, or NYC for the month of August that can help her with school, inspire her and encourage her in the right direction. Help?!
