My daughter is interested in studying abroad in Edinburgh for the equivalent of her 10th grade year (fourth year in Scotland). She has an open invitation to live with family friends in Edinburgh. However, there is zero information on how we can do this without help from an official exchange student program. The internets is no help. What are the steps we need to go through to make this happen?

I'm involved in organizing a trip to Washington, DC and Virginia for a group of about 25 Californian junior high students for next year. We've been looking at Worldstrides as a tour company. Anyone have experience with these guys - or any *really* positive experiences with other similar companies?

I'm spending nearly $400/month on automotive-related expenses for a car I don't enjoy driving. That's about 25% of my monthly income, and when it really comes down to it, I think I'd rather be saving that money for something better, like travel. Or education. Or Scotch. Lots and lots of Scotch.

Hi,
I will be going to a teacher associate job interview next week. This is where I will be sort of like a teacher's aide. Do any of you have great comments or responses that will impress the interviewer?

A Canadian friend just got accepted to an American grad school (Chicago) for a 5 year Ph.D program. He'll have funding, but how would his equally Canadian wife make a living in the U.S.? Getting the basic information is not as easy as they expected. What's the skinny?

I've just returned to college as a mature student and I'm doing really, really well (marks in the low to high 90s, for the most part). I'm proud of myself but I have no idea how to interact with my classmates who aren't doing as well without sounding like a complete jerk. I don't have experience with this! I could use some advice or etiquette. There have been some... incidents.

I lack a college degree and I'm finding that full-time work and school is really wearing me down. I work for gratuity and I'm finding the tips are not making up for the cost of living and the monies needed to pay for college.
Does anyone have suggestions when it comes to good paying jobs that don't require a degree that can support me while I go to school?

I'm working with a new 6th - 12th grade school focusing on Arts & Technology integrated into the cirriculum. We're looking for software that will allow us to accomplish varying tasks - e-mail for students/teachers/parents, digital portfolio publishing for students, shared discussion space for class comments, teacher/course specfic pages etc. Each student will have their own portable computer as well.
What I'm looking for is pratical thoughts/examples of how to provide this functionality. I've seen some schools using
Manila,
dotlrn also seems very promising but perhaps a bit too "big" for us to take on.
Is the weblog paradigm itself a good one to be pursuing to pull this off? Or are we just not ready to go there without significant effort? If you were attempting to create this techno environment for a school (many of whose students and teachers are unfamilar with technology) how would you pull it off?

A K-12 school I am involved in wants to be able to publish digital portfolios of student work on the web. As to additional functionality (i.e. Commenting on work, Blogging) I'm open to proposals. Since the budget doesn't allow us to pay someone to hack apache and write code we're looking for an out of the box solution. I believe that
Userland's Manila would let me do this at least in part - are there any other solutions I can be looking at?
