All tied up with art

Can anyone tell who the artist/writer of the 1950s or 1960s adult comic strip in the photos inside. Links might me NSFW. I was sent these 3 images, which appear to be scans from a book. here, here and here. Unfortunately, the sender wasn't the scanner and they dont know where the images are from.

There is a recurring "male chauvinist" theme to them and appear to be from the 1950s/early 1960s. What caught my eye was the heaping helpings of non-sexual female bondage.

There is some type of signature on each that might read "Ibigo", but googling that doesn't revel anything.

Can anyone shed some light on the artist or the book these are from?

Thanks in advance

Trying to find a comic strip about wistfulness... This was a comic strip printed in the newspaper maybe several months ago (SF Chronicle, though I'm sure the strip is syndicated). Single panel, 2 characters, a couple. One comments on remembering how they used to reminisce, and the other says longingly, "We were so wistful then."

Anyone know what strip this was, and where I can find it?

How do casinos in Las Vegas get their glasses back?

How do casinos in Las Vegas get their glasses back when you walk them down the strip? Las Vegas seems to have no problem with you walking around on the street with any type of alcoholic drink, and there have been a few times I've inadvertently walked out of a casino with a whiskey glass and deposited it in a different casino when it was empty.

I usually feel bad about this, but I see many people doing the same, so I figure there must be some kind of system in place to deal with it. Maybe there is a glassware-sharing program, maybe the casinos agree to sort them and deliver them back to their rightful owners, or maybe losing glasses is just part of the overhead of running a casino and they're just written off.

I have a 850va 425w UPS battery backup with only 2 outlets. There is a small server, speakers, home theater projecter, lcd monitor, and router connected to a power strip. The power strip and a desktop plug into the UPS. Is this setup safe? I am concerned about short 1-second interruptions caused by bad electrical connections rather than power outages.

Best technique and tools for stripping paint off wall

Best technique and tools for stripping paint off wall? This has got to be the messiest, least rewarding, DIY ever. Unfortunately I'm already a few hours into it. The paint had to come off because it is peeling and I want to wallpaper. I tried dry scraping but it didn't work. There are 2 coats of paint.

- What do you do when the scraper is full? Have tried scraping against edge of a cardboard box. Paint goo falls on both sides of edge and on to floor. Have tried wiping with rag. Rag gets full fast.

- What sort of scraper works best? The plastic kind they sell for this doesn't seem very sharp but works the best in areas where the paint comes off with little effort. I also have a sharp wide flat silver scraper that gets more off per stroke in tougher areas, but it doesn't have a well to hold the residue like the plastic one and it is nicking the plaster.

Home site articles I've found just tell you what stripper to buy, not how to do the job efficiently.

Help me identify this music to strip to.

Please help me identify this old song. There are no vocals, but lots of trumpets. It's a smoky standard that they often play in the movies when there is stripping, like on a stage. I first heard it on an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, namely, the "Badda-Bing Badda-Bang" episode and they play it at minutes 1:15 to 1:44.

Through some more internet searching, I read that it is also used in the movie "Back to the Future Part II" during the "dance" scene, but not having a copy of B2TFP2, am not able to cross-identify it.

I have, however, turned the music from the DS9 episode into a small mp3 that I have posted at the site Yousendit for the next week. Here is the download link:
http://www.yousendit.com/download/TTZuYkJ0OW5Qb0ozZUE9PQ

Any help anyone could give me would be much appreciated.
I plan to do a striptease for my girlfriend come Valentine's Day, and wanted a "clean copy" of this song to play while I did it.

Cheers.

this shouldn't take long

Got any advice for removing a gazillion layers of (probably lead) paint from a hundred-year-old banister, complete with an abundance of balusters? Oh, and a pocket door. So I own this house that was built in 1910. The previous owners have pretty much torn out most all of the original architectural details--no built-ins, no original moldings, etc. The two things they left intact are the banister and a pocket door. The paint is dirty and cracked and globbed on, and visibly coming off on a few areas. I have a cat and am thinking about kids in the next few years, so I know the lead paint issue needs to be addressed. I really want to strip all the paint off and have a nice dark stain. I've read all the questions I can find on here regarding different chemical strippers and heat gun options. The consensus seems to be that it's a hellish job, especially considering the ornate woodwork on the (20!) balusters. Plus I am messy and don't have much confidence in my ability to safely contain the lead--it's pretty intimidating.

I'd really like to hire this out to a pro, but the first estimate is about $5,000 to do it onsite, both the banister and pocket door. It would be much cheaper to take the items out and have them dipped and stripped elsewhere, which is easy with the pocket door (I was quoted $450 for the door if I take it to the dipping guy). But...the banister. How would I even take it apart? Would I need to literally have it in pieces? Balusters, hand rail, etc? Or can I keep it intact but just detach it from the staircase? From googling around I see that sending out architectural elements like this to have them cold- or hot-tank dipped is definitely something people do, I just can't figure out how to take this thing off without damaging it.. or without guaranteeing I'll never be able to put it back right.

Any ideas? Pictures are here. I'm in the SF Bay Area if you've got any specific recommendations for someone I can hire it out to.

Two n00bs walk into a strip club

What's the etiquette for a couple going to strip clubs in Australia? My boyfriend and I (I'm female) went to our first strip club, a classy gentleman's club (as opposed to a dodgy bar) in Brisbane last week. We had been curious about what happens in there for a while. Neither of us had done anything remotely sex-industry-related before, so we were awkward n00bs.

The experience turned out to be a lot of fun - some of the dancers were really good and we even had one of them feed us chocolate (yum!!). It's done wonders for our relationship and we're looking forward to returning to this club sometime in the future.

I think we could have done a bit better etiquette-wise though - we weren't sure what the rules are (aside from what the manager told us) and we did feel a bit "uh is this OK"? So we'd like to be a bit more prepared before our next trip.

1. I was the only non-working-girl in the club that night (it was a weekday night, so it was a bit slower than normal). From reading around, it seems that strippers sometimes avoid m/f couples because they think the girl's been dragged there and would be jealous. Is there any way I can indicate that not only am I cool with my boyfriend being there, that I actually find the whole thing fun and hot? (I'm pansexual and he's straight, if that matters.)

2. What's the policy on tipping? I tipped one of the dancers $5 (she eventually was our "chocolate feeder" girl) but I didn't see too many people doing the same.

3. The manager told us that when getting a private dance, touching anywhere but private parts was OK. We did ask our girl if she was cool with it and she laughed and said "Yes, sure." Even if there already is a long-standing policy, is it better to ask the girl first?

4. We're thinking of buying a lapdance the next time. What can we expect? What can we do/not do? My boyfriend thinks it would be hot for us (him and I) to make out a bit while getting the lapdance - is that actually OK or does that just show how lame we are?

5. Is it normal to ask for a specific girl if you've liked them the last time? Is it too stalkery?

6. We saw some girls that spent ages chatting to some customers, but we hardly had anyone come to our table (probably because of the "jealous girl" thing). How can we get the girls to come chat to us? Do we offer a drink? How do we approach them? We can both be shy at times so asking them directly can be a bit awkward!

Any other tips for strip/gentleman's club enjoyment? Share them our way. You'll be making a n00b geek couple very happy!

(please keep discussion about whether strip clubs are worth going to or not out of it. In Australia it's legal, and - at least in the club we were at - the girls went into it willingly and are well taken care of. I'm a feminist, but also pro-sexuality and pro-sex industry. But anyway, political discussions are offtopic.)

Which restaurants were in the Stardust Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in/around 1989, and what was the Stardust like at the time? I need some details for a story I'm working on: does anyone remember which restaurants/bars/buffets/etc were in the Stardust around late 1989 or early 1990? I've Googled for it, but most of the info on the Stardust is either older or newer than that period, for obvious reasons. The name and type of restaurant is enough, but any details you can give me would also be lovely. General memories/thoughts on the atmosphere at the Stardust at the time wouldn't be amiss, either.

Thanks for the memories!

Can you identify this webcomic strip?

Trying to remember the name of a webcomic strip and failing! It involved a little girl and an animal friend. I'm looking all over trying to find this webcomic, and I'm not sure if it even still exists. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

* Strip format, usually a joke in four panels
* Little girl and an animal friend cracking wise at each other
* The little girl was black and reminded me a bit of Ronald-Ann from Bloom County
* It wasn't Cat and Girl, but the style of humor was similar. The art was more cartoony, like Pearls Before Swine. It was in black and white.

Where is the best Montreal strip club to take women? My gal, and some friends of hers, are working on an art piece set in a strip club. She's never been before and I've never been to any in Montreal. So tomorrow night, myself and a couple of her friends are going to try and have some fun. For research.

Where is the best women-friendly place we should go? We're both pretty open sex-friendly folks, and but would prefer something a little less on the scuzzy side.
Decent Adult club in San Francisco?

Last minute bachelor party in San Francisco. Anyone know of a decent adult club? My male friend is getting married (he's straight). A bachelor party wasn't planned, but at the last minute he decided he wanted to do the cliched strip club routine. We're going to travel to and make a night of it in San Francisco. No one knows much about the city, much less a decent strip club.

Can anyone point us to a decent club? One the serves alcohol (so not fully naked) and doesn't try and force you to buy 100 dollar drinks? Just a place where we can get a table, drink a little bit, and be entertained.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Etiquettefilter -- So me and my girl were at a strip club... ...and another couple on the other side of the stage bought us a round of our drinks. We didn't know until the waitress brought the drinks to our table. We did not know the couple at all.

The question is - what was the appropriate response? Were we supposed to go over and sit with them? Buy them a drink in return? What?

As it was, we just went over and thanked them, chatted a moment, and came back to our table. But it'd be good to know for the next time.
Sin City, here I come

Weekend in Las Vegas - any recommendations for strip clubs or other naughtiness? This is a bit CheeseFilter! :P I'm heading to Las Vegas in a couple of weekends. My pals and I already have plans to hit restaurants, Cirque de Soleil, and the Star Trek Experience. I'd also like to hit some naughty and late-night stuff - strip clubs, topless shows, after-hours dance clubs.

I have Lonely Planet's recommendations, but I'm curious if any MeFi readers have advice on how to get some non-gambling sin in my weekend in Sin City.

"A screen",the pittiful cry they heard. Then more wailing and gnashing of teeth.

What is it? Is it possible to repair? Or where on Gods green earth can I get a replacement? Slowly increasing white strip with sporadic coloured lines throughout on my notebook screen. Funnily enough it is more frustrating to look for the answer than it is to just try to ignore it. Ok it was picked up by the screen and too firmly it appears. It started as just a few coloured lines and proceeded to spread inwards then turning white and getting larger slowly but surely.

It is a Sony Vaio VGN-B88GP (PCG-5B3P).

What gives me reason to think it's repairable is that I left it sitting close to the air con. When I came back and the screen flicked back on it was ok. Well I can't be sure completely but from when I was paying attention a good 3/4 of it was back to normal and then began to fade left to right back to white. So there must be hope... perhaps.

What's this comic?

I'm trying to remember what the name of an comic strip available online I saw several years ago. It was set in college and the main character was male and outlandish, always doing crazy things, etc. Towards end of the run, he doesn't like the "script" so he decides to make big changes before the comic ends, including leaving his wife and child. Any ideas? Sorry I can't remember much more. I don't know if was in print before being online or not. There were also other comics on the same site. The one I remember was incomplete (possibly intentionally) and was about another character from the same strip, who couldn't find love, and was upset that he wasn't adventurous enough. He looked into the stars a lot, and later he falls for a girl with a star on her shirt, although he never talks to her.

Power strip remote switch?

I'm looking for a desktop switch that will turn a device on and off, similar to that of a lamp dimmer. But a hard switch. I've found this, which is really close, but it accepts a standard power cable. I'm looking for something that you could plug a standard plug into, but switch from a nice little switch on my desk.

Help Me Practice Safe Prong Insertion

I need some new sockets to dip my prongs into. My question here is going to be significantly hampered by not understanding the appropriate terminology, so to put it in MikeSpeak early on: it is my experience that there are three kinds of plugs. There are two-bladed plugs in which one end is flared more than the other. There are two-bladed plugs in which both blades are identical in appearance. And there are plugs with two blades and a rod, which I understand is some sort of grounding thing. I don't know what the technical term for the difference is.

I have an extremely old boxy surge protector which I'd like to replace (It is ancient. I'm 32, and I'm fairly sure that I've had it since my mid-teens, meaning it's approaching a 20-year mark. How's that for durability?) That having been said, I don't think it effectively protects against surges, and I want to replace it with something new with a bit more capacity and better spacing.

However, the few times in the past that I have bought a surge protector to replace it (and the last time I tried was quite some time ago, so forgive me if the memory's slightly hazy on this point), the three-pronged sockets did not seem to accept the non-flared two-equal-bladed plugs. But, my current, old boxy surge protector accepts any of the three styles described above. (And I am fairly sure it is a surge protector and not a power strip based on the fact that there appears to be a fuse on it that would snap; I seem to remember five or seven years ago needing to reset that fuse after a bad thunderstorm, although that could be a false memory.)

So, my question is, why can't I put the equal non-flared two-equal-bladed plugs in these surge protector power strips I've bought? And what can I do to get a newer unit that takes everything my old boxy one does?

What's funny about potatoes?

What is funny and/or interesting about potatoes? I've been given the opportunity to draw a weekly strip for a magazine with a very limited audience: potato farmers.

The obvious thing to do would be to make a strip about a potato and his adventures. So I'm not going to do that. Off the top of my head, I think the adventures of some sort of personified blight might be more interesting, though that could change.

The thing seems to be completely open—I just need to make a strip that would "give a potato farmer a chuckle". I need to learn about potatoes, I guess; probably the only way to make something that's funny about potatoes is to know a lot about them.

So, does anyone know any interesting facts about potatoes, or little bits of interesting trivia?

Montreal Stag

I'm taking care of my buddy's stag in Montreal and we are looking to get him into the last trouble he will ever see for the rest of his life. Which strip clubs / bars / clubs would you recommend in Montreal to have a good time? I've searched the AskMe archives for Montreal but everything was about foot / siteseeing. Montreal is renowned as THE party city of Canada.

We don't have a ton of money to spend, but we aren't in the poor-house either. I'd say each of us is probably willing to spend around $100 (give or take) for a night out on the town.
Suggestions?

Cartoon speech balloons

Is there a good way to do cartoon speech balloons? I sometimes toss together cheap cartoons in an old version of Paintshop Pro. What's the best way of doing this, aside from hacking up something with an ellipse tool? Are there usable clip art samples out there I can import & paste? I'm sure there's a Photoshop plugin for this kind of thing, but I don't have Photoshop.

[Comic Filter] Help me locate an online comic strip

Hi,

I'm trying to locate a web-based comic strip that I had read sometime ago. The main protagonist is a young girl who works in a photo developing shop/lab. One day a customer submits some gory photos featuring violent acts (possibly murder? ) and the girl decides to investigate the matter on her own. That is all I can recall. Does this strike a note with anyone else?

Additionally, I would welcome recommendations for other webcomics that are favorites with the MeFi community. I enjoy stuff like PhD. and PVP.

Thanks

What are the black strip on the road?

What are those black strips that stretch across the road and into a small gray box on the side of the road (and generally chained to a pole)? At many different places along the road I'll see one, sometimes two, black strips/wires that stretch across the street and into a gray box. Possibly some sort of traffic analyzer?
