Recommend me a Stretching/Yoga App for iOS

I'm looking for an equivalent to the You Are Your Own Gym body weight exercises app. I've been using the app for a couple of months now and I really like it - the exercises are explained in good detail and there is a good progression from very easy to challenging. There seem to be loads of apps available but I'm not sure which ones are any good. Which have you found useful?

The phantom joint pain strikes again...

I strained my adductor muscle (groin) in March and rested like a mofo - no exercise at all for probably 10 weeks. The doctor said it looked like a localized injury and that some stiffness would be natural because the repaired muscle grows back a little longer (weird). I've been gradually ramping back up with slow exercise - yoga, dance, etc. - but today after a more strenuous workout I'm feeling a dull ache in my muscle after no pain at all for weeks. Argh. YANMD, but ye who have pulled groin muscles before, does this mean I have hurt myself again, or is some soreness here and there natural? Do you ever feel pain from past injuries? Should I go back to the doctor or just do some gentle stretches and watch it for a few days? [more inside]

Can I stretch out my light bulb?

I have a candelabra chandelier (E12) and I want to use LED bulbs in them. The problem is, the bases of the bulbs are so wide that they bottom out in the socket before the bulb's end pin can make contact with the bottom of the socket. The socket does not have a tab I can pull out, and the chandelier is made in a way that replacing the sockets does not seem very accessible. I have encountered this with two different brands of light bulbs, and looking around, it seems that it is a common problem with LED lights. So, I want to stretch out my light bulbs. [more inside]

I want to do the splits.

So let's say that, initially as a joke, you and your husband made a New Year's Resolution to become able to do the splits. You are in your mid-30s, at healthy weights, and you both do moderate exercise almost every day (walking, light jogging, elliptical, what have you), but your flexibility is average. My questions are: [more inside]

Help me not ruin my shoes so fast!

My favorite pair of shoes in the entire world, this pair that there only seems to be one of in existence, are just a smidge too narrow. They're 11D, and feet would fit best in an 11E. That smidge is giving me one mean callous, but more importantly the widest part of my foot, tipped with that callous, has already worn through the leather lining and might have burst through the calfskin outer if I hadn't caught it in time. What can I do to not ruin these beautiful, expensive shoes any further? [more inside]

Variety in work out plan.

I started going to the gym 5 days a week last year and am managing to hold steady with that. I do one hour a day, 15 minutes running, 15 minutes yoga, and 15 minutes weights. (The remaining 15 minutes is me lying on the ground breathing heavily at various points.) Should I be concentrating on one of the three at a time? [more inside]

Dealing with muscle tightness from referred visceral pain.

Sporadic muscle spasms/tightness in my right flank have stopped being sporadic. It's now pretty much constant. It's going to be at least a month before I have health insurance again, so for now, going to the doctor is not really an option. I'm looking to explore all non-woo options to treat and prevent further episodes. [more inside]

I started running again and I need to get flexible ASAP

What is the fastest and most effective way to get limber/flexible again? I'm middle-aged and was a life-long runner until I switched to bicycling about 5 years ago. Biking didn't do it for me so I'm running again and training for a 10K that's only a month away. I never had any flexibility problems before but now my hamstrings and butt muscles are very tight. My stride's a lot shorter than it used to be and I'm having some minor back pain and stiffness that might be related to my tightness. [more inside]

Will these muscles ever open up?

I'm 54 years old, fairly new (2+ years) into a yoga practice. I'm unable to open up enough to successfully do many of the poses; my muscles are not only tight but also actually shorter (from what a trusted massage therapist told me) shorter than the same muscles on other people, presumably because I've carried stress by tightening up all these years. I do believe in this practice, and the possibilities of actually opening up these muscles over time -- is this just delusional? [more inside]

Good stretches for an inflexible fellow?

I went to see my doctor yesterday for a running injury (IT band). He says that basically I'm fit but that I have the "flexibility of a two-by-four". He wants me to do a stretching regimen three times a day — more if possible. He showed me a couple of stretches, but I'd like to do more. Can you recommend any good individual stretches or stretching routines, especially for a novice runner (and especially for one having trouble with his IT band)? YouTube clips a HUGE plus. Yoga's fine, but there's now way in hell I can do the pigeon pose (I have the flexibility of a two-by-four, remember?).
