I recently got an MRI and was diagnosed with a cervical herniated disc. Not much pain, but there is numbness and tingling in the left thumb, and very tense shoulders along with some other symptoms. It has been about 2 months since I got it. For people who have had a cervical herniated disc - besides resting and visiting the doctor, do you have any other advice for getting the hernia gone as quickly as possible?

My favorite pair of shoes in the entire world, this pair that there only seems to be one of in existence, are just a smidge too narrow. They're 11D, and feet would fit best in an 11E. That smidge is giving me one mean callous, but more importantly the widest part of my foot, tipped with that callous, has already worn through the leather lining and might have burst through the calfskin outer if I hadn't caught it in time. What can I do to not ruin these beautiful, expensive shoes any further?

I have a bad back, which I think arises due to a combination of 1) weak core muscles; 2) extremely tight hamstrings; and 3) bad posture. I would be very grateful for any tips for addressing these issues.

Image-stretch in Word 2010: I'm writing a manual which includes explanations of particular icons used in an app. I've taken screengrabs (.png) of each icon (between 10x10 and 30x30 pixels) using MWSnap, but when I drag them into Word they expand (approx 20%), and I have to manually re-size each one back down to the original size so it doesn't look stretched. Why is this happening and how do I fix this?

I sit at my desk all day and forget to move, focus elsewhere, stand up, drink water, stretch. You get the idea. I want a regular reminder to take a moment to do these things. I've searched apps and freeware and have come up empty. Help?

I use my smartphone a lot and my hands/thumbs are getting sore. I know how to stave off pain from typing and hunching over my computer, but those techniques don't work for this. Can you recommend stretches or massage techniques?

I've recently discovered that when I stretch backwards with my arms above my head while holding my breath, I sometimes get a super-trippy laughing-gassy lightheaded rush for about (no longer than) ten seconds.
So:
How bad is this for me? Am I killing loads of brain cells?

What muscles get stretched when doing the flat "figure four" stretch? Lying flat on your back with one leg straight and one ankle resting on the other thigh crossing above the knee and lowering the knee down to the floor in a flat "figure four" pattern.

I've bought a pair of what I assume to be reasonably good hiking boots for a
long trek/challenge I'm doing at the end of August - 100km in 36 hours or so, through the Australian bush north of Sydney (bush = forest, national park). Trying them out, eg. on a 12km walk at the weekend, they're quite tight across the toes. If I keep wearing them (generally around the place, and on longer walks) will they stretch over time, or should I buy a better fitting pair while I still have time to break them in?

I just bought a pair of amazing leather boots. They were the last pair. I'm not returning them. However, they're knee-high and the left one is a little too tight on my calf. I can still wear them, but I'm looking for advice as to how to stretch them, just a little, to make them more comfortable in the short term. I imagine that they'll naturally stretch a bit over time, but I'm hoping for a quicker fix. Anyone?

I went to see my doctor yesterday for a running injury (IT band). He says that basically I'm fit but that I have the "flexibility of a two-by-four". He wants me to do a stretching regimen three times a day — more if possible. He showed me a couple of stretches, but I'd like to do more. Can you recommend any good individual stretches or stretching routines, especially for a novice runner (and especially for one having trouble with his IT band)? YouTube clips a HUGE plus. Yoga's fine, but there's now way in hell I can do the
pigeon pose (I have the flexibility of a two-by-four, remember?).

Ugh. How do I *not* pull my "butt" muscle? My butt muscle seems to cramp up fairly easily, sometimes when...uh...engaged in "lovin'" with my wife, sometimes in non-compromising positions. If I'm "cupping" my own butt, it would be the muscle where my pinkie or 4th finger is pointing...more or less. Looking at the picture on the
Wikipedia entry, I would guess it'd be my Gluteus Medius...maybe.
When the muscle cramps up, it's *really* painful, and I can't move *at all* for about 5-10 mins. It still hurts maybe 15-20 mins later. I'm in my 30's, skinny, and probably not in the greatest shape. Are there any exercises or stretches or something I can do to prevent/minimize this?

Windows 2000/XP has three options for setting desktop wallpaper: Center, Tile, and Stretch. Unfortunately, these are all kinda dumb. If I want to set a photo from my digital camera as my wallpaper, I'm stuck with a bad fit (Center), repeating images (Tile), or an incorrect aspect ratio (Stretch). Is there any third-party utility that will intelligently resize my desktop wallpaper?
