I used to play
a lot of PC games, but in the past 10 years moved towards console gaming. I realise I've missed a whole era of games that only really work with a mouse and keyboard. My absolute favourites were creative, engaging, long play games, such as
Rollercoaster Tycoon and
Civilization. I never really played to win. I played for creative ends. The best times I had playing Rollercoaster Tycoon was in
sandbox mode the only limits being my imagination. Those were the days. What (PC) games offer the equivalent of this now?

I'm in the front passenger seat with my iPhone. My six year old son is in the back seat with an iPad. What turn-based games can we play, each using our own device. The iPad does not have an Internet connection.

I have an opportunity to get an new xbox for cheap, and I have a huge (really huge) library of games available for me to borrow from and play for free. If I do go this route, which games should I look at? I'm not really a gamer...

I'm looking for some PC game recommendations. I guess I'll settle for X Box 360 and PS3 recommendations as well. I know a variation on this question has been asked many times before, but I have a fairly specific requirements.

Does anybody know of a computer game that is what I would call "Parallel Strategy"? That is, it's not realtime in the sense that there are discrete turns, but it's not turn based, because plays are not sequential, but played in parallel (that is, all players make their moves in the alloted time for the turn/round). When the time is over for that round, conflict resolution rules happen...

Name that game: You're a feudal lord trying to conquer neighboring territories on a sort of RISK-style board. Make the wrong move and you'll enrage the pope.

I'd appreciate some recommendations for PC based strategy games. I've really enjoyed playing Age of Empires and Caesar 3 in the past and was wondering what other newer games I could try, that are along the same lines. I tried the newer releases of the AOE franchise but find that I enjoy games that are set in ancient civilizations more .
As far as playing hardware goes, my laptop has 2 GB of RAM and a pretty decent (I think!) video card (ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 with 256 MB of video RAM). Thanks!

I'm looking for a battle strategy game in the tradition of the Myth series (or the old-school game "Siege"). Interested in troop movement and in-battle tactics, NOT maintaining economy/resources, spawning units, buildings, etc. (Warcraft didn't interest me when I tried it many years ago).

Any Magic: The Gathering players out there in MetaLand? What are some of your favorite cards? How about favorite combos? Do you have any seriously killer decks whose secrets you'll share? Lastly, how do you feel about the newest editions WotC have been putting out?

Good, multiplayer, web based strategy games. They have to be out there. None have quite done it for me yet, for which I should be thankful but am not.
