Hi all, I am looking for some thoughts and ideas on managing stress and emotions better regarding work stuff, because I've found myself being awfully negative lately, getting into anxiety loops, and dwelling on anger & frustration. What I am going to describe is not a great situation, of which I am fully aware, but there are many, many, many reasons why I have no interest in leaving this job now so please do not suggest it. keeping secrets without going bonkers

I have been entrusted with a handful of REAL BIG SECRETS lately, and it's wearing me down far more than I expected or was prepared for. I'm not very well-practiced at compartmentalization, apparently, but I can't un-know the things, so I gotta get good at it in a hurry. I'm looking at at least another 2-3 months, depending on when/if these things are brought out more into the open. How can I get better at this? [more inside]

Protection in a weakening economy

Our deficit and our debt are at record levels, even compared to WWII. Then, the debt was financed internally, not by other countries, so the interest we could pay was lower and the money was recycled in the U.S. Now, the debt and deficit are mostly financed by other countries through bond offerings and the like. And as they grow, those debtor countries will want higher interest rates on repayments, which drains money out of the U.S. [more inside]

How do you read vividly?

Since I began a reading life (at about age eight), I have had a problem: my mind automatically places action in just a few places familiar to me from my life: my house, the main street of my hometown. Whether the action in a novel takes place in 16th century Scotland, or the Black Forest, or under the Unisphere. Are there ways to get around this, or to learn to read fiction more actively, and, fantastically/creatively? [more inside]
