Straps! Help!

So many straps! Hey there, can you all tell me about the strappy-style thing? I saw a gal today with about three sets of straps and no sleeves. Are these bras? layered tanks tops? What am I seeing? It looks cool but I don't know what I'm looking at.

Thanks!
Your stylishly-challenged pal Miffy

I'm looking for a pair of boots that I've wanted since 1988: Black leather 10-strap winkle pickers. The thing is, I've found them--but I don't want to buy them from the UK. NOT UKist The reason why I want to buy them in the US--either online or in a brick and mortar store within the NYC vicinity--is because I have difficulty finding boots that fit over my calves. I want to be able to return them without having to pay a buttload of money.

But I can't find them anywhere outside of the UK (or Germany), and I'm a pretty adept googler. The closest I came was a store in PA (can't find the URL now) that used to carry them, but alas, no more. I've noticed this season that high boots with buckles seem to be in style, but I haven't come across anything I really like.

I'd be cool with a pair of boots that meets some if not all of my criteria. Here they are in order of importance: 1) Black leather 2) Multiple straps with buckles 3) pointy toes (aka winkle pickers or pikes) 4) low(er) heels 5) mid-calf height. (Oh, and also, I don't want the nu-goth style boots with giant platform heels; I'm already too old for the ones I want--nevermind those.)

This is an incredibly specific and possibly quixotic plea, and I'm willing to accept that my demands are impossible. If so, can anyone recommend a good US shoe store that carries different styles of winkle pickers?

bra strap

How to keep bra straps from showing without safety pins? I have a few shirts with somewhat wide necklines that sometimes expose my bra straps if I move around. Is there any way to keep the straps attached to the shirt that's less obtrusive than safety pins and less permanent than sewing?

What gives with the strap on the foot?

I was hanging out with a U.S. Navy officer. I noticed that he had something unknown to me on his feet... The strap was about 1/2 inch wide in a figure 8 shape. The first loop went around his foot, under the arch and over the top. The second loop, connected to the first was around the ankle. The top of that was up under the pant leg so it wasn't obvious what is was for.

He was wearing standard Navy Khakis. So it wasn't one of things for the blousing effect. Also the strap looked like elastic material like the stuff on underwear bands, but black.

Mormon underwear? Strap down for a side-arm? He's a bad-ass so ya never know. This is a silly question, but I just couldn't ask him about it.

I don't like it when it hurts to walk.

What can I do to make these shoes less hurty? I just picked up a new pair of Naot mary-jane-type shoes, and although the Naot insole is everything it's cracked up to be and more, the strap rubs my foot in a really irritating way, and the back is driving my left Achilles tendon nuts. I have little red scabs all over my ankles. In general I tend toward instantly comfy tennis shoes; it's been a long time since I've had to really break in a pair of shoes for everyday wear, and I'm not entirely sure what (if anything) I can do.

Other than not wearing these shoes, what options do I have? I'd like to try DIY methods to either toughen my delicate skin or break in these shoes before I consult a pro.
