Best course of action after cutting open ones eye.

In the event that I cut my eye open while shaving with a straight razor, what steps can I take to improve the chances of keeping my eye. My current plan is to close my eyes, tilt my head back, then make my way to the phone to call 911. Any input would be appreciated.

Shave and a haircut, two-bits?

Where to get a proper shave in the Boston area? So the bf's birthday is coming up (the big 3-0), and he's expressed interest in getting a proper shave from a professional. Hot towels, straight razor, the works. He's a scruffy guy who doesn't shave regularly, and has never used anything but an electric razor. I've heard that having a professional shave can be a a great experience (true?) and thought it might be a nice treat for his birthday.

Being a shave-naive girl, I have no idea where to take him, or how much a good shave would cost. Would the local good old barber shop be okay, or should I be looking for somewhere a bit nicer? Not looking for anything too too fancy, but it is for his birthday...

I should mention that he's currently sporting something between a full beard and a goatee, and proabably would want to keep at least some of it. Would they be able to shape/shave around this?

Any advice, experiences or suggestions would be appreciated!

Straight razor anyone?

I have read several posts here on shaving and have recently decided that I would like to give the straight razor a try. Before I do so I have a few questions. 1. Is there a good substitute for a leather strop, or does the very nature of a straight razor require the strop to be leather? Is there an alternate tool that can be used in place of the strop?
2. What other tools, supplies etc. are need to start shaving with a straight razor.
3. Any tips for switching from using a Mach III type razor?
4. Any tips or general comments about your straight razor experience? (quality brands/models, etc.)

I am not looking for the cheap way out on this. My skin is sensitive and I'm willing to spend what I need to spend to keep from tearing my face up and to keep my wife happy with a smooth shave.

I prefer that all goods are animal cruelty free/not tested on animals, made by socially responsible companies.
