When you're shopping online, do you like to see detailed descriptions or just the bare bones specs? Or have you seen research that says one or the other? I'm responsible for adding new products to our online shops, and I'm trying to justify the time spent writing detailed descriptions.

I've just inherited a really gorgeous, old, very high-quality set of pearls from a family member. In addition to making sure they don't need to be restrung so that I don't accidentally break them, I'd actually like to see about breaking the set apart. Because they have strong sentimental value to many of the women in my family, if I could find a large enough quantity of identical pearls, I'd like to have my one set split into two or three sets to give to other family members, each containing some of the original pearls from my necklace. So my question is, who is the best jeweler in the DC metro area to find out whether such a project is feasible? Cost is not really a factor, at least not at this stage of the process. Thanks!

I'm looking for some ways to get the local lunch crowd into our bookstore, which sells used books, CDs, DVDs, videos, and books on tape/CD; a small number of new books; kids' gifts; and other gift items/stationery/cards. Many of our customers don't have much to spend (which works out because our books are priced very low), but nearby is a law firm, a couple of big corporations' local offices, a bank, etc. I don' t know if the employees even know we exist. Any ideas on how to get them in here to pick up a birthday card or used CD or small gift for a friend? We're located in the downtown area of a medium-sized city. There are
very few places to shop in the downtown business area.

So I am now an owner of the Samsung Chromebook 3 (yup, "The $249 laptop from Google"). It fits, well enough, what I need, and it's definitely what I can afford. (I have access to a laptop at work.)

I once wandered into a store selling vintage steel road frames converted into fixed-gear bikes. I think I was in the Silverlake area, but it could have been Los Feliz or Echo Park (I had been exploring LA all that day with a free TAP Card and wasn't 100% oriented). Does anyone know what store this might have been, or where I could find a similar store in the LA area?

I have a job that I like (or at least I like sometimes) with a boss who alternately micromanages and is totally hands-off. Morale at the store is really low, particularly lately, as we've had several big tasks to juggle. I need advice on how to deal with it. Snowflake details inside.

Obama SWAG in Chicago---where can I get some fast and in person? Leaving for Ethiopia in a matter of days and I've received a request from someone there for anything "Obama"...t-shirt, pins, posters, etc. But I don't have much time and anything ordered from the campaign store online will not arrive in time (they don't have an option for faster shipping.) Are there any brick and mortar stores in Chicago where I can pick something up?

I have an idea that involves a lot of small (pocket) mirrors. So I want to go to a store that ideally has a lot of pocket mirrors of different sizes (shapes are not that important) on display, and play around with them before buying. Then after I find what I need, I'll buy a few. Problem is, I don't want to buy before browsing. Does anyone know of such store in NYC?

Two gift questions:
1. What is a good gift, ~$30, for a 9-year-old boy who loves anything to do with construction and is forever building things out of scrap wood? (It's for
this kid, who, two years later, is growing up to be completely awesome and a joy to have around.)
2. A while back someone asked a fashion question and one of the answers had a link to a store that I can't find now. It seemed to be a British store that had come to the US because it kept referring to their various lines as "our [blah blah] range." It had women's and kids' clothes, I think men's, too, and the kids' clothes were colorful and whimsical and somewhat modern looking. It's the kids' clothes I'm after, so if you have other suggestions for clothes like that, that'd be great, too. Thanks!

What stores in Paris sell salty liquorice candy? I'm aware of one store (Käramell) that sells the candy by weight, but I'm really looking for a store that sells pre-packaged salty liquorice candy products, such as Venco Topdrop Hard Zout. I've had no luck in any of the chain supermarkets, so have you seen salty liquorice products in any smaller, independent Parisian stores?

Does anyone have any advice? A week ago I bought a $450 TV via Walmart and got it sent to a local store in Maryland via its site-to-store service. I was going to pick it up this weekend when I'm renting a truck to move into a new apartment. However when I checked the website yesterday it had stated that it has already been collected by me last Saturday. I did not pick the TV up.
