I would like to be able to access files on my mapped network drive remotely on my ipad. In particular, I would like to access entire folders of files that change somewhat on a weekly basis in places where I may not be able to get internet access or do not want to wait for a download. There does not seem to be a product that offers these features. Suggestions? [more inside]

I was an AD/Photoshop expert for years, but I've changed careers and my computer needs have become less hardcore than they used to be. I'm getting rid of old career/office stuff I don't need, but just realized I have an entire closet full of old Macs and hard drives that are full of all sorts of stuff I should probably sort through, consolidate, purge and/or save... How do people do that nowadays? [more inside]

I've replaced an aging iMac with 3 external drives hanging off of it with a Macbook Pro with the same 3 external drives hanging off of it. The setup also includes a cable modem and a Time Capsule. Right now the drives are in daisychained Firewire mode. I'm looking for a way to connect the drives to my wifi network so I can eliminate the need to plug the first drive into the laptop? Staying with Firewire would be nice, but it's not a deal breaker.

So I work in a non-profit (education-centric) and I've been asked to put together a new Mac system to help me in my video editing work. I also need to archive 20 years' worth of videos and keep them safe. I could really use your help! [more inside]
I like my coffee--enough that I just drink one good cup a day. (I make it with an Aeropress.) Since it's just one cup, I don't feel shy about adding half & half. Ultra-pasteurized h&h has a sell-by date that can be a month out or more. I thought I'd be smart and make it easier to store and pour by putting it in a glass container. It's this GlassLock container. After four or five days, the h&h starts to separate. What should last for weeks more goes bad almost right away. This has happened with several brands of h&h, and I've certainly washed the container well. Does anyone have a guess on why this is happening? Any suggestions on a container (you've tried yourself) that does work well for storing half & half?

As a father of two little snippers and inspired by a recent advert for Google in which emails are sent to a gmail address detailing a childs life to look back on in future years - how good a way is this to create a multi media archive for posterity? Is it possible to archive entire gmail accounts offline for backup? Concerned that the various external HDs I use to backup will fall apart in the sands of time.
My workplace seems to deal with storage in a way that is unsafe: we have boxes stacked to the ceiling (one box on top of the other, not layered like brick) along several walls and shallow crates and flat boxes stacked to the ceiling in an area at least 6' on each side without any sort of support other than the containers everything is in. Is this normal for stockrooms and warehouses? If not, how can I do something about it? [more inside]

I'm interested in the following online video storage features (it would be great to have all of them offered by one website, but if that's not possible, I'll settle for a few): 1. Privacy options for marking videos as public/private 2. Free/Cheap storage 3. Ability to download original file at a later date 4. Ability to play video online

I recently installed a new stereo in my car. It's a single DIN stereo in a double DIN slot, so I now have a storage slot right above the stereo. However, it's made of a hard, slick plastic and anytime I turn the car or brake, whatever is in there can fly out. Does anyone have any ideas for a material or something I could put in there to provide a "grippy" or rubber-type surface that won't let stuff slip out? Amazon links or widely available products would be great. Thanks in advance.

So, I have nearly a terabyte of photos of my daughter stored on a computer which has been taken over by tr/crypt.xpack.gen (if that is your real name). It would probably be best that I store the photos on some sort of server somewhere (clouds?), but I know nothing of such things. Any advice on online storage, computer security, and not shooting in raw would be greatly appreciated. Please help, as we would rather not have to force my daughter back in the womb to recreate the photos of her birth. [more inside]
