I learned today that it's dangerous to store combustibles such as clothing near the fuse box or electrical intake. I keep my off-season wardrobe under the stairs, and the electrical intake/fuse box is also under the stairs. How far away do I need to keep this stuff? What is a safe distance?
Is it feasible to use compact-o-stuff vacuum bags to reduce the crowding in the understair cupboard?

My husband has come into 2551 Grateful Dead tapes. He is over the moon. I am less so because they're currently taking up space in 17 boxes in my finished basement and we have virtually no storage space. We would like to store them and ideally display them so he can see what he has. I would like them to be relatively compact and not look like junk. Any ideas?

We have a wooden dining table that we need to store away until a time undetermined. We have two options: attic or shed. We will, of course, be taking the table apart before storing.

How can we store our kitchen sink dishwashing sponge to prevent it being eaten by our cat?
Rupert, after years of ignoring it, has recently decided that the sponge is a fun thing to shred and nibble on. Currently it sits on top of the sink edge on top of a spiky plastic soap saver thingy so it can dry. How can we store it so that it will be (a) easily accessible to humans, (b) not accessible to Rupert, and (c) able to air-dry? I'm imagining something like
this with a flap on top, for instance.

The house I'm renting has very little storage space inside but has a huge deck. How much damage would I do to my stored items to keep them in plastic Rubbermaid containers on the deck? It doesn't snow here but it gets quite rainy.

Please help me, I'm overwhelmed with stuff. I have way too much stuff in general and I'm making a real effort to get rid of as much as possible. I did a massive storage closet clean out over the weekend and I discovered that my mom set aside five large boxes of things from my childhood for me. What should I keep?

I like my coffee--enough that I just drink one good cup a day. (I make it with an Aeropress.) Since it's just one cup, I don't feel shy about adding half & half. Ultra-pasteurized h&h has a sell-by date that can be a month out or more. I thought I'd be smart and make it easier to store and pour by putting it in a glass container. It's this
GlassLock container.
After four or five days, the h&h starts to separate. What should last for weeks more goes bad almost right away. This has happened with several brands of h&h, and I've certainly washed the container well. Does anyone have a guess on why this is happening? Any suggestions on a container (you've tried yourself) that does work well for storing half & half?

I recently installed a new stereo in my car. It's a single DIN stereo in a double DIN slot, so I now have a storage slot right above the stereo. However, it's made of a hard, slick plastic and anytime I turn the car or brake, whatever is in there can fly out. Does anyone have any ideas for a material or something I could put in there to provide a "grippy" or rubber-type surface that won't let stuff slip out? Amazon links or widely available products would be great. Thanks in advance.
