Since the stock market is only active from 9:30-4 M-F, (less than 20% of the hours in the week, and even less of the year because of holidays), is it possible to sell at the end of the day and plop the money into a savings account, and then buy again on the beginning of the next day? If not, what prevents this from happening? Is it just fees? Would be an easy way to make an extra 4%/year from interest.

I don't have alot to invest but it is certainly something I can and plan on building on.The question now is what online trader to go with. Any reccomendations for online traders with low minimum starting balances and good learning tools for beginners would be greatly appreciated.

Stock market filter: I'm not getting the answer i want from online glossaries that I've checked out. Can anyone give me a good layman's answer for a stock market beginner? When looking at a stock's price, what are the Bid price and Ask price and how do they relate to the "current price" of a stock. It seems simple, but there is some mental block preventing me from totally getting it, i think.

The way I understand the stock market, prices go up when people are buying, and go down when people are selling. So what if I had a huge amount of money, bought tons of stocks and then sold them again instantly? Wouldn't I make a big profit? Or am I just completely wrong?

What is the advantage of owning stock which has voting rights? These guys (the first 20 posts, specifically comment #17) imply that stock which has voting rights will trade at a premium. Furthermore, this Berkshire memo mentions that there will fluctuation and difference in supply and demand between two types of stock that have a constant valuation ratio despite having differing voting rights.

What is it about voting rights that would add or decrease value to a company's net worth? Most of the links I've checked seem to only confirm that yes, there is a difference.

Stock quotes. No, not like "We don't need no steenkin' badges," the current price of a given stock. I need to put a little box on a page that will update (when refreshed) with current quotes for, say, five different specific stocks. This has got to be easy. Anybody got a free javascript lying around to do this? And if that's ridiculously simple, what about plotting the five specific stocks against each other over time?
