I want a stocking to stuff

Help me find Christmas stockings for my family. I am married with three kids. We would like to get new Christmas stockings for the whole family. It would be great if they were good quality and moderately priced ($10-25 each). However, we really want ones that are modern or at least not overly traditional in styling and that we can personalize with our names, or that have initials monogrammed on. (Although if they come with an initial, then they would need to come in different colors because we all share two first initials S or R).

Low-rise tights?

I'm looking for low-rise tights cut to fit a petite, short-waisted woman. I'm 5'1, 125 pounds, size 6/8, short-waisted, and I carry my chub in the mid-section. Small-sized tights are way too tight in the middle, but anything larger and the waist sits nearly at my chest because I'm so short.

I've googled "low-rise tights" and found some at Target, but I'm wondering if there's any other particular brand that's cut that way but not necessarily advertised as such.

I've tried:

GAP Small, GAP Medium: both way too tight in the middle. Like, "pain box from Dune"-level tight. Somehow, the medium is tighter than the small (?!) and, of course, its waist is practically at the bust.

Old Navy Small: see above

Urban Outfitters: I have some I bought last year that fit decently, but they were specifically marked "low-rise" and looking at the website now, I don't see any that say that any more.

Anyone else with a similar build found tights that fit?

I need hose that don't use a tourniquet to stay up

Please recommend thigh-high hose/ stockings for use with and/ or without garters for a more muscular/ less twiggy thigh.

I'm a size medium in most clothes (6 to 8) but every time I purchase thigh-highs, the top seems to cut into my leg in an unflattering way.

I am willing to go to boutiques and pay more for the best fit...

Have yourself an internet little Christmas

Help me send virtual gifts to my kids overseas. A big part of our family Christmas tradition is Christmas stockings. This year both of my kids are working abroad in jobs that I can't mail a package to. So I want to stuff a Christmas stocking on line. I'm looking for something interactive along the lines of various online advent calendars like this one, but where you open presents instead of dates.

Does anyone know of a site or app (google? yahoo? facebook?) that will let me do this? Suggestions for what to put in it would be good too: I could stuff it with online gift certificates for games or music (assuming it's secure), fun websites, what else?

I know I can do this via a simple email, but I'd like a fun graphic interface as well. Tried googling it, but only got commercial sites. Thanks, hivemind.

Self-links welcome, if you do this yourself, or MeMail me to stay within the site rules.

Help me find hose/tights for the larger - but not largest - woman

Please help me find hose/tights that fit the larger - but not largest - woman. So, apparently the hoisery industry has a very different idea of NUMBERS and PHYSICS than I do.....

I am not a small girl, I'm 5'8" and about 180 lbs. Not a freak of nature, but surely not bony, I'm pretty well proportioned if a bit large.

This morning I opened a package of hose size Queen 3. Yes, Queen 3. The back of the pack indicates that they should fit women up to 265 lbs and 5'11". They do not.

I literally - and I mean that literally - could not get them on past mid-thigh. I gave up after I ripped them with sheer force of pulling them upwards. What the fuck? These were some JC Penney cheapo brand.

Do you guys know any brands that *actually* fit the larger woman without causing nerve damage? I find that I either find hose like this that are made for Bratz, or when I buy them at, say, Lane Bryant, they're made for 6'7" Amazons so they pool up around my puny ankles.

Please help!!

ISO lingerie, looks not important

Where, oh where, can I find a garter belt without frippery? I prefer the garter belt/stocking combo when wearing hose. But I'm having trouble finding belts that aren't so encrusted with bows, lace and other decoration that they're useless underneath slim skirts.

I'm not so interested in garter belts attached to corsets or bodysuits. A simple belt, especially one that can sit lower on the waist, is what I'm hoping for.

So, ladies (and knowledgeable gents), where do you buy your garter belts? (I know some of you do.) I'm looking for recommendations for specific belts, brands, or retailers in NYC or online.

Thanks very much!

Where to find an old pattern for a knit Christmas stocking?

Help me find the pattern for the knitted Christmas stocking of my youth! My mother knitted Christmas stocking for all four of her children when we were young. We're all in our 30s and 40s and I would like to continue the tradition. She can't remember when she got the pattern and my guess it that it was a kit. The pattern/kit would have been available in the mid-60s through the early 70s. It features Santa Claus in the chimney on the front and a moon on the back. The top edge includes a space to add each child's name. It looks like this: Front Back Close-up

I'm sure if I put my mind to it, I could make the pattern but I'm lazy and don't have time. I've spent hours searching online for it and have gotten nowhere. I once saw another one and asked that person where she had gotten hers and it turns out she bought it at a garage sale. Maybe I need info on good knitting forums for asking this same question but if anyone has ideas of where to find the pattern that would be the best!

Do I have to have perfect thighs to wear stockings?

Does one have to have perfect thighs to properly wear thigh-high stockings? I've worn thigh-highs before - Victoria's Secret and another anonymous department store-type brand - and every time the top band ends up rolling into a tight torniquet-style roll. It's pretty uncomfortable. I'm not overweight per se, but do have a little extra chub on my thighs (who doesn't?), which seems to be the only cause of the problem. This wouldn't be a huge problem except for the fact that I know someone... who quite likes the look... and they DO feel very sexy, and I like them a lot in theory. So my question is, am I destined to not wear stockings unless I find a way to banish the cellulite? Can only people with perfectly slim thighs pull these off, or am I wearing the wrong types?
