The "ssshw-oonk" sound when Mario falls in the pit about 1:20 into this video
. I swear I've heard this sound used in other places, as it's fairly distinctive; is this a stock sound effect of some sort? What can you tell me about this sound? I don't need it for anything, I'm just consumed by curiosity.

I own some UK stock which is listed on the London Stock exchange. The companies' shares aren't registered in the United States and cannot be sold in the US.
I would like to sell a portion of these shares, so I would like to find the name of an English bank and a telephone number for the appropriate person at the bank.

I need to find a scene in an old film (preferably really old, like pre-1923) that shows a bunch of stuffy men sitting in an audience, listening intently, as if to a lecture. The only catch -- it has to be set in the late 19th century. Anything pop to mind, oh great collective brain? [more inside] [more inside]

Stock Options data source needed. I would like to poll a site via API to get option prices on about 30 stocks - about 20 times a day. The data does NOT have to be real time - 15 to 20 min delay is fine.
I can go to yahoo finance or Bigcharts, but would like the data imported into my local MySql database.
A free or inexpensive (less than $20 per month) would be great.

My partner and I need to pay off some debt, and unfortunately we need to dip into our retirement funds. Our tax accountant is on vacation and we can't find the answer to our question. I was wondering if now would be a good time to buy stock in, say, a bank. The theory being buy low and then some years from now, it would be high. I'm talking maybe $1000, such that if I lost it all, while I wouldn't be very happy about it, but it wouldn't break me. I realize you are not a lawyer, or financial analyst, or whatever. I'm looking for any opinion, for or against.

I was listening to public radio this morning and they were talking about the current financial crisis on Wall Street. The expert said, "We will pull through this. America is resilient." That surprised me, as the idea of us not pulling through never occurred to me. But now I'm wondering: what would happen if we didn't "pull through"? As in, explain to me the rock bottom scenario for the United States' current situation and how we get to it. Obviously make it realistic it enough that I can have some really substantial nightmares.

Where can I find the historical PE ratio for a given stock market sector or industry? When you get a stock quote from Yahoo Finance, the historical prices page
tells you what the stock sold for on a given day. The competitors page
shows the average PE ratio for that stock's industry. I am looking for something kind of in-between — namely, to find out what the PE was for a given industry/sector was on a given date. Where can I find this information online?
