Will my sick friend get even more sick by living with a dead rat smell? [more inside]
My beautiful, beloved cat peed on the couch. Anti-Icky-Poo is failing me, and frankly I'm fed up and just want to pay someone else to make the cat urine smell go away. I'm in NYC. Any recommendations on who I can call to deodorize the couch? [more inside]
I l.o.v.e roasted garlic. A nice crusty bread, good cheese, & a heaping helping of roasted garlic makes me so happy. It does not, however, make my husband happy with me, or rather, my smell. Is there any trick to mitigating the garlic I apparently emit from my pores, mouth, & soul for a few days or is he stuck with us? No, he can't join in the fun because it tears up his stomach.

Okay, sorry for this gross question I am about to lay on you. I clean my cats' litter box on a pretty regular basis, scooping it daily (okay, almost daily) and then washing it down when needed. It is large size. What I am finding is the cat claw scrapes go down to the base and it's like the cat pee seeps down into the actual plastic of the box and just makes the box permanently stinky. I tried litter liners and it was a disaster - they ripped them to shreds and it was just extra mess to clean up. Does there exist like a stainless steel litter box base or that material they make space ships out of or something?
It's an old winter white wool felt portrait hat. It stinks: hairspray and perfume. Odorzout and Smells Begone have been enthusiastically recommended here, but I'm concerned that spraying liquids on a felt hat will deform its lovely shape. Any suggestions for dry fragrance fighting? My only thought was filling the hatbox with cedar chips, but then it will smell like cedar chips, which is only marginally OK for this asthmatic and will probably make other sensitives gag. I've digested the copious hat-, felt-, and destinking-related advice here on MeFi.

Smelly Shoes: I wore my favorite pair of shoes to one of the hottest, most humid 7 weeks of Vermont summer in recorded history this year, and my shoes stink. I've tried spraying them full of Odor-Eaters spray powder (With Zorbitex™!) and leaving them alone for a while, and while they smell fine when left alone, they reek after an hour or so of use. Can I exorcise these shoes, or do I need to dump them? How do you tell if a pair of shoes is OK to wash in a washing machine? [more inside]

StinkyDogFilter: Our 4-year-old vizsla gets really, really stinky after being outside in the sun for a while, to the point where it's almost unbearable to be in the same room with her when she comes inside. After 15 minutes or so the stink subsides and she's tolerable again. Any ideas?
We have a stinky dog, and now we have a large stinky rug. Can we unstink the rug? It is about 12' x 10', wool, worn, and it sits atop a fitted carpet (the landlord's) in a bid to stop the latter getting stinky as well. The rug has seen several, uhm, accidents; and the products in supermarket aisle seem to promise so much and deliver so little. It would be a shame to get rid of the rug, seeing how it ties the room together, etc.
