Meaning of "UP" Bumper Sticker

What does the "UP" bumper sticker mean? It is a blue square with white letters "UP" in the center, observed in the DC area. The bumper sticker is square, about 4 inches on each side, with a dark blue background. Centered within the blue square are the letters "UP" in a white sans-serif font. I have seen this on vehicles registered in DC, VA, and MD over the past couple of years.

Red herrings: it is close to the same color and shape as the HRC equality sticker but I don't think they are related. And this is unlikely to be related the to Pixar movie because I have been wondering about this bumper sticker for the past two years.

Protect that laptop. Protect that stylish image.

Where can I find a laptop skin for my Inspiron 1318 for less than $20? I want something to stick on my 13.3 inch laptop to give it an extra level of protection and style. I've seen lots of websites, and some incredible designs, I love this one and this one but unfortunately they're like $30. Additionally, they don't seem to specify that they're compatible with my Dell Inspiron 1318.

Has anybody seen any other good laptop skin websites out there that won't break the bank? Bonus points for sites that explicitly state exact size proportions, or specific model compatibility.

Small-quantity vinyl cut stickers?

I want to get a couple (or 4?) of vinyl stickers made (about 3"x3") that are white with a negative background to decorate my girlfriend's fleet of bikes. Obviously, this isn't a bulk order... Has anyone had experience with this? Any recommendations? Similar questions HAVE been asked, but i'm looking for vinyl cut stickers, not printed ones. I can only find sites that do bulk orders, or JUMBO decals.

What does the blue flag with a wavy white line (horizontal, I believe) represent? I've seen a sticker on several cars around town with a blue flag and a single wavy white line. The internet, or rather my search skills, has been failing me.

Foolproof way to prevent registration sticker theft? I recently visited some friends in the city, and at some point during the night my car's registration sticker (on my license plate) was stolen. I found a $40 ticket on my windshield the next morning for an expired registration. Fun.

The DMV's sending me a new sticker, and I'm appealing the ticket. No big deal for now, but I really don't want to have to deal with this more than once. I'll definitely be parking in this area again, and street parking is the only option. Has anyone come up with any good ways to make sure your registration sticker stays where it is? Clear packing tape? Some additional adhesive? Thanks!

My college sticker cooked onto my rear windshield. Please help. It is one of those long, clear stickers with the name of the school in all caps. I put it in my back windshield when I graduated and, after five years of living in Kansas, the heat has begun to bake the letters and turn them brown. I tried to peel off what I could, but half the letters are left and it just looks awful. What is the best way to get this off without causing any damage? Thank you.

What is "La famille"?

Question for Montrealers! In the past few years I have noticed that some stores display a sticker on their front door that features a tree and roots and (sometimes) the words "La famille". It has a white field and the tree is cartoon-ey, green and brown. The caption is written in some kind of cursive font. What TF is this? It tends to be on some dep entrances but it's on some restaurants and other businesses as well. I've seen it mostly in the Plateau/Mile End and Outremont - but that is most likely selection bias.

Is it some kind of crypto-catholic thing? Does it mean "Catholics, what few of you are left in Quebec, can feel good shopping here?" Or something completely different?

What good is a windows COA sticker?

What does it mean when a used laptop is advertised as having Windows XP installed and coming with a COA sticker? Without having a Windows install cd, is there any benefit to having such a sticker? Would it, for example, permit one to call MS and obtain a new install disk for Windows XP?

Help! I need banana stickers! Specifically, I need Metalocalypse-type banana stickers.

I have seen these and these on Amazon.com, but they only contain 8 banana stickers apiece, and that's just no fun.

Also, they're kinda small.

I've also tried googling "banana stickers" but I've only come up with banana sticker collections or banana stickers that don't look like the banana stickers on the show.

Anyone know where I could order banana stickers that look like the ones shown on Metalocalypse?

What to use to get stickers off of RAM sticks?

I have a shoebox full of RAM sticks that I want to make some art out of. What should I use to soak the stickers off? That's pretty much it; lots of obsolete desktop and laptop RAM modules that would look nice covering the fridge or a file cabinet (I'm thinking glue gun & minimagnets). But I want to get all the manufacturer's adhesive stickers off cleanly, without discoloring or otherwise dissolving the modules themselves.

Anyone recommend a solvent or favorite goop?

I once found a sticker that said something to the effect of "those who would say that any kind of love is wrong, don't really know anything about love at all" ... I would like to find it again, can you help? I purchased it online about 3 or 4 years ago, and I don't think it was from a mass producer of stickers/magnets etc. such as stickergiant. IIRC it was a gay and lesbian support site that sold the stickers to help fund raising. Could be wrong about that though.
The sticker itself was a square not a bumpersticker-like rectangle and the words were in shades of blue. about 4 inches by 4 inches or so.
I would love to find this sticker again or something similar.

What was the wording on this faux-DMCA laptop sticker I saw? A few years back (2005 or so) I saw a sticker on a laptop. It was a parody or rewording of a DMCA notice, and the general idea was that, by opening the laptop lid, you were somehow violating the DMCA. I thought it was clever at the time, but have never been able to locate the text online.

bonus info: the sticker was supposed to be swag of some kind from DEFCON, but I don't know which year exactly (2002-2004 would be my best guesstimate) but it is not listed on their past swag page.

Is there another method of placing bumper stickers?

For school, we are required to have this bumper sticker on either our back bumpers or back windshield. I am highly anti-bumper sticker, so I have not even considered placing the sticker on my bumper, thats out of the question. Is there an "easy" way or method or trick to place the sticker on the inside of my back windshield that can be easily removed?

Please help me find a picture of a specific Hello Kitty sticker. I had a sheet of Hello Kitty stickers. If memory serves, it was either clear or white, and HK herself was dressed in light blue and light green. I admit I could be wrong about the colors. One of the stickers had the word "luckey" underneath it (yes, spelled "luckey").

I have tried googling, I have tried every image search engine I can think of, I have sifted through thousands of flicker images. Can't find the page in this house wherever it is and I can't even find a picture of it.

If you know where I can find a good picture of it -- either of the whole page or just of the "luckey" Hello Kitty -- please please tell me where. If you actually have the sticker, could you please take a nice digital picture and either post it online someplace or email it to me?

Help my luthier S/O achieve immortality in his work! My S/O is an accomplished luthier. He can take a violin, cello, or standup bass that looks like it's been run over by a truck and restore it so that it will play again and look beautiful as well. Often an instrument comes through his shop that is quite an antique. There will sometimes be "stickers" on the inside, recording who made the instrument, or who added modifications and repairs over the years. While peering into a standup bass with a flashlight one time, looking at something like "Horst Finkelbaum 1888" (not a real sticker!) I said, "Hey, YOU should have something like this! People 200 years from now can bitch about the way you glued something up!" And he said, "Yeah, I know, I should." So for an upcoming birthday present, I'd like to make a design, and have a few hundred printed up for him. I figure it should be acid free paper, about 3 X 3, with ink that can take a slopping of hide glue, but that's as far as I can figure it. Can anybody recommend a company that might make something like this to order? What could I expect to pay for, say, 300 of them? We're in NYC, but I'm thinking this would be something I might be able to do online or mail-order.

What does the bumper sticker depicting something akin to a deer-crossing sign mean? The sticker looks like a deer-crossing sign except that instead of a deer, some other deer-like animal is depicted (springbox? ibex? impala?). I have seen the sticker with regularity on cars in eastern states.

At my (security-sensitive) work we all get badges. Sometimes we leave them at home. Sometimes we need to bring a visitor in. Then we get temporary badges. These badges have an interesting fading sticker on them. How does it work? The sticker is actually in two parts, which I've seen assembled thusly: First, a red "EXPIRED" sticker with lots of bright red lines is placed on the plastic badge. Then a white sticker with the division name is affixed directly on top of that one.

As the day progresses the "EXPIRED" text becomes more and more visible. I've not yet had the gumption to take one home and see if the white sticker fades completely, but it appears that is what would happen. How does this work?

I asked one of the receptionists that passes them out, and he said that the red ink was bleeding into the white sticker. I find this implausible for two reasons: the sheets with the red stickers on them are stored folded and have no protective covering for any wet ink, and generally the backs of stickers are pretty impermeable to all but some nice solvents (at least in my experience) that would cause the adhesive to fail.

In addition, the red and white stickers become permanently bound together (I futzed with them at work a bit), but it's trivially easy to remove the red sticker from the card itself (good for the staff as they clearly have to do this every day).

I saw this affixed to a transformer at the Forest Park "L" stop in Chicago.

The only reference to this phrase I can find is a piece by Jamie Pawlus, though I'm not sure if this is related. (I already have searched under his name, and read the links related to his work, mostly out of Indiana). I was wondering if anyone has further information about whether this is an intentional installation piece, or an authentic piece of communication from the CTA.

Mystery Sticker

I'm curious about an old sticker on a dresser I inherited from my dad. The dresser is my dad's from when he was growing up in the 50s, but he says he doesn't remember what the sticker is from (he hasn't seen the dresser for years and I don't think he even knows what I'm talking about). The sticker is attached to the mirror. It's a shield of some kind with a tower on the top and greek symbols on the bottom. I know my grandfather was active in the masons, so I'm wondering if it has something to do with that.

I'd love to find out what it symbolizes and/ or what the Greek means. Thanks!

I'm working on a craft-type project that, when finished, will involve adhering large nylon panels to plastic or metal surfaces. I've done a few sample versions of this by covering cardstock in cloth tape, putting my image on the tape, and then using more of the matching cloth tape to adhere the panel to the surface. There has to be a better way to do this with the nylon, though - is there such a thing as large double-sided adhesive sheets that can turn a reasonably light piece of cloth/sythetic/paper into what's essentially a giant sticker?

Stickers on tinted windows

I just got a used car that has tinted windows. I'm not sure if they're factory-installed or after-market (is there a way to tell?). Anyway, I'm going to be putting a parking sticker inside on a window. Will the sticker be a problem removing in a year? Will that tear off the film? Thanks.

Cryptic Bumper Stickers

Two cryptic bumper stickers spotted separately in Chicago, do you know what they mean? (1) "You Will Be Safe." (2) "Maroon Life -- a Life of Resistance." I really like the first one--sort of like a fortune cookie, but spookier. Maybe a band name? The second one might be a reference to U of Chicago, where the sports teams are known as the Maroons, but this seems like a stretch. Google has failed me on both.
