So my husband and I are considering an international trip (Scandinavia), and possibly renting a car. When I started googling this, it seems like a large percentage of rental cars in these countries are stick-shift. While there are some automatic transmission options, I'd want to be prepared in case a rental company screwed me and gave me a manual (I'm usually unlucky when I travel). I'm having real difficulty however finding driving school options in/near Portland, OR that will teach stick. Please help! [more inside]
Blue/white-tac issues. How do I keep my shiz on the walls instead of on the floor? My posters/notices keep falling off my walls. None are particularly heavy paper or strange glossy finishes. Surfaces I want the paper posters to adhere to are either wooden doors or normal painted walls. 75% stay up for months without issue - others fall down on a weekly basis. [more inside]
I believe I am bring offered a job for which I just interviewed for. The president of this technology company emailed me and told me my compensation would be: x dollars base salary + y dollars in stock options. This does not seem to be a publicly traded company so I'm not sure what this means or what I would even need to ask to properly evaluate the offer... [more inside]
I have a "snow stick" that was my mothers. It's an extended yard stick - about 39". The numbers going up the stick are in red and green and at the top it says "snow stick" and has a hole under that to hand it on a nail. I've been trying to find them for some Christmas presents for next Dec. but the only one I found was on e-bay for $38.00. It also says on it - made in Durham, N.H. I'd be looking for probably about 15 of them. I remember seeing them in hardware stores years ago for cheap money but I'm hoping someone still them out there and are reasonable. Any help would be appreciated. I also tried googling Durham for them but to no avail.
Ok, I'm healing up very nicely post a bad knee injury. I do a fair bit of travel, including an upcoming trip to Japan that may involve quite a bit of walking. My physician suggested a walking stick when I saw him last (3 weeks ago.) I haven't even needed it, nor the knee brace much. I do some photography (DSLR, Raw) and figured why not use this as an excuse to get a good monopod that will behave as a good walking stick. I'd buy Gandalf's Staff, but I'm sure I'll have problems with TSA if I had that.

I'm looking to purchase a new hockey stick. My favorite shaft is the Louisville TPS Tricore 3 but they've been discontinued for a while. Do you know of a stick similar to the Tricore? I want a composite shaft and I particularly enjoy the wood outer shell on the Tricore composite. There are pictures of the Tricore on this site: http://hockey.inlinewarehouse.com/showthread.php?t=10557 As for me, I play forward, 5'7", 150lbs. I take the occasional slap shot but I'm more of a stick handling, dangling, deking, wrist shot type of player. I realize stick choice is a personal preference but I'm really hoping there's something similar to the Tricore out there somewhere.
I am suffering from a medical condition that causes severe muscle pain and weakness. I think that a walking stick for occasional might help, but I want something that looks cool and that I can fold up and put in a bag when not in use. [more inside]
Who makes the free promotional lip balm (Yelpstick) that Yelp gives out? My wife liked the tangerine Yelp Stick handed to us at an event, and I'd like to buy her some more. I don't need to (and would prefer not to) get it from Yelp if it's just a rebranded/generic lip balm from some other manufacturer. [more inside]

I am almost done with college. Since I've started, four separate times I've taken a semester off to study abroad, work overseas or do unorthodox things in the name of adventure. I've come to terms with myself and I know that this is I want out of life, and I know that when I graduate I'm not going to get a steady job with benefits or any of those other things that responsible people are supposed to do. How do I explain this to the people I care about in a way that makes them feel good about me? [more inside]

I recall something that I believe I heard Carl Sagan say either in an episode of Cosmos or in one of his earlier books, that one could store enough information to hold an entire encyclopedia by putting a notch in a stick, if only one could measure where the notch lies to some absurd astronomically precise figure.
