I'm interested in getting some kind of WiFi based speakers for my apartment -- preferably something small and reasonably portable that I can move from room to room (or alternatively, something cheap enough to get a unit/pair of speakers for the kitchen, one for the living room, and one for my bedroom). There are a lot of similar devices on the market now and I'm not sure how to start combing through them. [more inside]
I listen to most of my music on CD, and want to replace the cheapo Philips stereo and speakers from my student days with a better quality system. Recommendations for receiver and speakers please? Total budget around $500. [more inside]
I have an overabundance of stereo/home theater equipment and I need to simplify. Is it possible to hook a second pair of stereo speakers up to an existing 5.1 system in some way? The receiver does NOT have a second zone. [more inside]
In past questions (1, 2), I've described my stereo setup and my desire to build a stereo tube amp. I have no worries about actually building the kit amp, but I'm not sure what I'd do with all my speakers. In thinking about this, I realized I don't know much about my stereo in the first place. Can you help me understand what it actually means to have a stereo amp? [more inside]

I have a pair of vintage Bose 501 speakers that have worked great for the past five years. They are connected to a vintage Yamaha CR-820 receiver. A while ago, my favorite toddler pushed all the buttons on the receiver and the speakers stopped working. She came over again, pushed a bunch of buttons and it started working again. Next time: bunch of pushes, stopped. Now no button pushing seems to matter... is it broken? [more inside]
I need a new amplifier/receiver for music and TV/home-cinema. I've looked at the Onkyo "network" range, especially entry level around £350-£400, but I am sure I could get my hands on an amp from a few years ago with all the features I desire, and save a bundle. I'd really appreciate your advice. [more inside]

Based on their good reviews and cheap price, I bought a pair of JBL Control 1 Pros for my DJ setup at home without realizing they were passive speakers. Any recommendations for a cheap amplifier? Do I really need two or three separate boxes for just-OK computer audio? I need some kind of speaker to hook up to my laptop-used-as-a-desktop, but having three or even two separate components is cumbersome. I also don't think I really need an expensive, fancy system. [more inside]
My surround sound system keeps cutting out at higher volumes. Please help me find a way to stop it happening. [more inside]
How to place a good speaker in a corner? After investing in some decent audio gear, I find that I cannot avoid placing the left speaker in a corner due to space constraints. As expected, this emphasizes low the frequencies on that side and makes the sound stage a bit wonky. Short of moving the speaker, is there any way to mitigate this somewhat?
Where can I find the correct speaker for my Panasonic CD Stereo System, model number SC-AK600? It still works quite well except for the left surround speaker. I need to find a replacement speaker. Any websites out there that sell these?
I'm going to be relying on my iMac and the music stored on it for a while. I would like to get a set of speakers so that the computer sounds better. What reasonably-priced powered speakers have folks had success with? I'd rather not get a separate subwoofer. I'd be willing to get a small amp and use my small stereo speakers if all the other options are too crappy. Thanks.

I just bought a "Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified Computer Speaker System," thanks to recs from another post on mefi. When I plug my iBook into my home stereo, it sounds horrible. Way bass-y and mumbly. I can tweak it - setting the iBook volume way low and messing with bass and treble on the stereo - so it's passable, but I'm wondering if I'm doing it wrong. (I plug it from the headphones jack into the Phono input.)

I have an old Pair of Zenith Allegro speakers (50-watt, 8-ohm) with pre-attached cables and RCA-style plugs (male) for connecting to the stereo. I'd like to use them with a more modern receiver (50-watt max, 8-ohm) that accepts straight wire from the stereo; should I just lop off the ends and wire them in, or is there a better method? Also, can I use them with a >50-watt stereo if I keep the volume down, or is that just bad?
