No! I wanted a sharp card, not a card sharp

I am looking for a super-cool card store in NYC. Mrs. HotBot has not wised up lo these ten years and she loves cool and cards. Where can I get her a cool card in NYC? I need to get it the same day - no special orders. And I am not thinking Papyrus - I am thinking albino monks with a small tea salon/cool card emporium on some street I have never heard of.

I need stationary!

Help me find an economical, customized stationary and business card service. I've decided to get business cards and personalized stationary. Here are my needs:

Containing very little information - basically my name, e-mail, phone number and one URL.

Black (or black and another color) on white or ivory - no pictures are necessary

Clean, modern look

Business cards and flat cards for writing notes, preferably with envelopes included.

Prefer an online card designer or preview, but I can design them myself if I have to.

Low quantity: 50 - 100 business cards and 20-30 stationary cards

I'd like to keep the price low but I'm willing to pay more for an independent designer or the like.

Available online or in the DC area.

Any recommendations?

I'll write a tipsy letter to a real good friend of mine

Darling-Letter-Filter: Where can I purchase attractive, design-inspired paper goods online? I am planning on hand-writing some letters in order to re-connect with people in my life (and to update them on my current whereabouts/endeavors, etc.). Thus, I am looking specifically for sheets of paper + envelopes for letter-writing. I really enjoy the design sensibility of current independent designers, so I'd like something that reflects this.

I'm well-acquainted with designers on Etsy, but I'm not finding what I'm after. Most of my other leads are from places like Creature Comforts and Oh Joy! (taking a look at those, you'll get a good feel for what I'm looking for). However, as with Etsy, most of the suggested designers are primarily invested in creating folded note-cards, and not singular sheets for letter-writing.

Can you suggest somewhere online where I might be able to find such stationary? I want links! Lot of links!

If there is a designer or online storefront that doesn't offer such stationary, but you feel shouldn't be missed, please feel free to post those links, too! I might find use for those later on. :)

Office Stationary Chess

I remember an magazine advertisement from long ago which featured a slick chess set made out of desk drawer miscellany. The pawns were binder clips. I think the rooks were loupes. I've always wanted to see it again. Anyone else remember this and have any other information about it? What was the ad? What were all the pieces?

Finding size B5 notebooks in America

Where to find B5 notebooks (preferably in the DC area)? A year ago I came across these Kokuyo Brilliantes Large spiral notebooks at the University of Maryland Barnes & Noble bookstore. They were an ideal size -- about 7"x10", about 80 sheets, and as an added bonus had a space for a heading and date at the top of every page.

The only other place where I have come across B5 notebooks is the Kinokuniya Stationary store in San Francisco. Now I am back at home in the DC area and I am at a lost where to find more spiral notebooks like these before I go back to school. I can only find the Kokuyo Brilliantes sold online in bulk. The UMD B&N bookstore only has the "Medium" sized Kokuyo notebooks, which are too small.

I'm not sure where else to look. I don't really mind whether the notebooks are Kokuyo, I just really like the B5 size for taking notes on cramped desks and carrying around campus. No luck at other B&N's, or Staples. Any suggestions?

Where can I buy scratch card paper?

Is there such thing as scratch card paper/transfer? And if so where might I be able to get it? A long time ago I saw these really cool scratch card stickers that let you make any message or image you wanted into a scratch card simply by applying the transfer/sticker onto the paper and cutting out the sticker.

I know there are companies that will print personalized scratch cards for you, but I unfortunately need too have the materially myself. So what I'm asking is it possible to by sheets of this stuff?

All I want is sheets!

For the love of God, do truly blank pads of paper exist? I'd love the following: 8.5*11in pads of white, unruled paper, with the little cardboard tops.
I would give someone else's first child for these - or, alternately, money.
(Maybe I should just get some paper bound?)

Have stationary bikes fallen out of favor?

Have stationary bikes fallen out of favor? For several months I've been going to a gym. Besides the freeweights , etc., it has the usual bland assortment of aerobic exercise equipment: steppers, elliptical trainers, and both recumbant and upright stationary bikes. I don't remember the brand, but they all have the same sort of boring interface with a bunch of red dots representing your exercise level, various settings for interval training, endurance training, etc. Nothing special.

Oddly, though, they only have 2 or 3 upright stationary bikes, as compared to 10+ each of recumbant bikes, steepers, and elliptical trainers. Furthermore, nobody (except me) uses the upright stationary bikes. Lots of folks, both men and women, use the recumbant bikes, steppers, and ellipticals.

This works great for me, as I never have to wait in line, but what's the deal? Why doesn't anybody use upright stationary bikes anymore? Or is this just a local, isolated phenomenon?

Fountain Pen Help

I would like to buy a fountain pen. A nice one with a fine nib. Anyone here have a pen they would strongly recommend? Also, Is there anything important I need to know about fountain pens, and using them. (I'm not interested in calligraphy, just writing letters and stuff like that.)

modern and cool business cards

I saw (and actually bought) some business cards and now cannot find the site. They were hip, modern, retro: there were various designs that you could choose from, and had stars, a girl with a gun, coloured squares, and others. Anyone? My credit card records (or PayPal) don't turn up anything that has pinpointed the website.

If the card was vertical, the coloured/design part of the card took up about 3/4 of the card, leaving a white stripe at the bottom for the name, address, etc. Here were the designs I remember:
-- coloured background with coloured squares/circles - kind of yellow, blue, green, maybe red
-- star/asterisks
-- a retro print of a girl with a gun
-- a retro print of a 70s style disco dancer
-- possibly even stripes.

If this doesn't ring a bell, does anyone have a great, cool, business card website? Not really horrible laser-light prints, but I do want something more than just the name on a piece of white paper. The horrible designs our there are hurting my eyes. Thanks!
