After only a week or so of job search
, I've been offered a software development position at a little startup that does almost exactly
what I want to do. Seriously, I cannot imagine a more ideal group to work for. I'm supposed to contact them next week to discuss terms and salary. However, during the interview, some of the statements seemed to imply that they didn't have the budget to satisfy my requested salary. I really want to work for these folks, but don't want to sell myself short. Can you think of creative suggestions I might make during negotiations to make up the difference? [more inside]

I have a desktop that is located in a semi-public place. I have a bios password and a windows password on it. Sometimes I leave it logged out of windows so that I can leave in the middle of a project without restarting everything again. I was wondering how hard it would be to get my data? Short of stealing the actual hardware, is there a way to get past a bios password and access my data without me knowing? (From what I understand, resetting the cmos would clear the password so I would know if someone got in.) Also, is it possible to get in if I leave it logged out of windows with a password? How safe is my data?

Here’s the lowdown: I’m the senior sound designer / managing director for a leading international sound library company who’s been successfully running a company that doesn’t belong to me for 6 years. I’ve exhausted this opportunity, as the company is limited in its ability to grow due to the owners methods. In short, although I still have my job (and could have it forever, so to speak), I need to get out. I’m striving to create an opportunity for myself (and potentially for some of the other amazing employees I’ve hired who are looking for better opportunities) by starting a new company, and I must act now as I am not getting any younger.. I’ve been thinking this through for almost 6 months now, and something seeming great has just happened. Can you help me make the most out of it?

Where can I find a partner to help me build a business based on a Web service? I'm 18, I'm not going to be in college for at least a year, and I can fund the venture for 6+ months out-of-pocket. But the programming is far too much work for just one person. [more inside]

After much soul searching, and a few good quotes
on the green
, I have decided to start nurturing a small web 2.0 company serving a small niche on the longtail. I have serendipitously stumbled upon an idea that I can't stop thinking about, am confident about, and am truly passionate about!
I would like to think I am a saavy developer, marketer, and communicator. Unfortunately I am plain ole' dum when it comes to legal frameworks, financial structures, and graphic design.
I am in the middle of the ocean, and quality services here are prohibitively expensive. Where can I find a good onshore lawyer, accountant, insurer, and graphic designer to solve my Rubik's cube? Are there soup-to-nuts consultancies that incubate small software startups like this?
I need a wide array of advice and help concering: Advantages of onshore vs. offshore physical incorporation and data hosting, choosing a beneficial incorporation structure ( LLC, Partnership, etc. ), understanding my obligations and liabilities to subscribing customers, painless financial management, beautiful multiple-themed CSS templates for pre-existing XHTML pages, and stylish custom icon sets.
I have devoted a bit of capital to this and would like to wisely invest in cool people that will complement my inadequacies. Can anyone steer me towards any quality sites, services, or partners to clear these important functions off my entreprenurial plate?
In the spirit of Open-source, upon incorporation, I will issue an equity position in my company to the best lead.

StartupFilter: What questions would you ask a startup you were thinking of joining? What questions would you ask yourself?
More about the startup: its a software company that has VC funding. They are just starting to create the product. There's less than ten people involved.
More about me: a corporate monkey who's looking for a change in life if possible but can stay put if that's best. I have a good job salary-wise right now, but I do not feel like I am moving anywhere with it. I have worked long hours in the past and am interested in the product being created. I felt the need to post anonymously because I have posted about my job here before.

Flash MX 2004 crashes on startup, suspect font issue, as the last thing the splash screen says is "initializing fonts". DreamWeaver, Fireworks and Freehand work fine,
I had been messing around with the fonts on my XP pro system lately, trying to get Extensis Suitcase working right, so I moved most of my fonts out of the windows/fonts folder (except the ones with a big red A, as suggested in suitcase's manual), but much wierdness ensued. A mess of 0 byte font files appeared in windows/fonts, which I managed to get rid of after removing windows/fonts special properties, and later restoring them. Have moved fonts back into windows/fonts, but Suitcase reports about 16 postscript fonts as "missing", but these same fonts don't show up either in windows/fonts, or under the font lists in The Font Thing or OT1 Font Manager. OT1 reports a "temp" font named "Sydnie" which doesn't show up anywhere else.
Have tried fixing registry, using OT1's tools and much else, to no avail. Have reinstalled Windows and Flash a number of times. Windows explorer is a little off, too, locks up, etc.

Win2K - I had a risque pictue set as my desktop background. My in-laws are coming to stay for a week, and my machine is in the guest room. Since I already don't rate very highly with then, I swapped the background image to something very tame. However, during the startup process, the original image appears for a couple of seconds before being replaced by the new. Why does this happen, and how can I fix it?
