Smudgy Stainless

Stainless steel everywhere. What's the best way to clean it to be free of fingerprints and smudges? We inherited a kitchen that is pretty much wall-to-wall stainless steel (cabinets, countertops, sink, fridge, etc.). The smudges and fingerprints make me crazy. What's the definitive word on cleaning it?

smudgeproof stainless steel fridge?

We're looking for a refrigerator that meets the following criteria: counter depth, french door (sometimes called bottom freezer), no external ice or water dispenser, but with internal ice & water and - here's the tricky one - a fingerprintless/smudgeproof stainless steel finish. Bonus points if stainless steel finish is authentic (as opposed to a grey satin color) and if the fridge is magnetic. Preferably under $2500.

This GE model is the only real contender I have found so far... Surely there are other options out there!

Can you help? Searching the interweb for details has proved surprisingly fruitless and frustrating so far.

Thanks!

No more plastic in my coffee, please.

I am looking for an electric coffee maker that is not made of plastic. I have found several that are "stainless steel" in the sense that they are plastic wrapped in steel, or the carafe is steel, but what I want is a machine that does not heat the water in plastic. The only thing I have found is a vacuum coffee maker made entirely of glass, but that's not really what I want. I'm also not interested in a French press or a Chemex. Please help!

Could a stainless steel thermos cause heartburn?

Could a stainless steel thermos cause heartburn? (Asking this for a friend.)

I just want to know if there's any possibility that drinking water out of a stainless steel thermos could be causing my heartburn?

The heartburn started when I started using the thermos and I can't find any other reasons for it. I only drink ice water from it.

Can anyone recommend an indoor electric bbq grill with cast iron or stainless steel grill? I'm looking for a stand alone model without a teflon coating, the only one I've really seen is this type . Does the hive mind have any experience with any other types that they are happy with? I'm looking to spend under $200.

Do you have a long-term relationship with a non-plastic kettle?

Anyone have a non-plastic, long-lasting kettle that they'd like to recommend? I've been looking for a kettle to buy that 1) isn't made of plastic, 2) doesn't have any plastic parts in the reservoir where water is boiled, 3) is durable, and 4) is available in Canada. Bonus points if it's efficient on power, though at this point I'd consider a stovetop or an electric kettle with this (so far) hard-to-find combination of characteristics. I've been looking at enamel kettles and stainless steel kettles, but most of the ones I've found either have plastic parts on the inside, have the frequently moving parts made of plastic that seem easily breakable (like the hinge on the lid or spout), or have reviews that describe them as practically flaking apart on contact with an element...

Anyone have any good experience with a kettle with these non-plastic, durable qualities? Any avid tea drinkers out there who have a kettle that has stood the test of time? Thanks for your help!

How Can I Clean Gunky Bits off My Stainless Steel BBQ Without Destroying It In the Process

How do I deep clean my stainless steel BBQ grill without causing damage to the surface? I already use a special stainless steel cleaner and a soft cloth/paper towels to get dirt off and make the grill nice and shiny. However, over time gunky bits of dried up sauce, grease, etc. have attached to the surface of the grill. Getting this off obviously requires more elbow grease than the normally recommend stainless steel cleaning procedure. What can I use on stainless steel that will both get all this disgusting stuff off of the surface without destroying said surface in the process?

Help with my stained stainless steel!

Silverwarefilter: As much as I hate to waste a mefi question on this, but I feel I have to because it's driving me crazy. I have a set of stainless steel silverware and a set of cutlery also made of stainless steel (different brands/sets). We wash them in the dishwasher and they are constantly getting these orange like rust stains on them. How do I get rid of these? They can be rubbed off with some heavy scrubbing but I want the stains to stop recurring. Any ideas?

Why do my stainless steel pans look so bad out of the dishwasher?

Why does my new stainless steel cookware come out of the diswasher covered with white splotchy stains that I have to hand wash? We just bought a set of Emerilware (made by All-Clad) cookware. I'm learning to adjust to cooking in steel without teflon, and for the most part I love it. However, if I brown anything in the pans, when I clean them in the diswasher, wherever there was any cooked on residue, there are very ugly whitish splotches. I tried pre-soaking the pan as well, and it still did the same thing. The manufacturer says these pans are dishwasher safe.

I can restore them to their original look by cleaning the interior with Barkeeper's Friend, but it's kind of a pain to have to hand wash them.

If I don't brown/burn anything in the pans they come out of the dishwasher just fine. Am I using too much heat? I've read that only moderate heat should be used on clad stainless cookware.

Fellow MeFi gourmets, what say you?

How do I remove scratches from stainless steel?

Is there any way of getting scratches out of a brushed stainless steel appliance? Spend fortune on new kitchen last week and this week kitchen hob was cleaned by someone who hadn't read the instructions on how to clean it and it is now covered with scratches. Any way of rescuing it? It is the brushed stuff rather than the shiny stuff.

Where can I buy sheets of stainless steel for general outdoor projects?

Where can I find stainless steel for outdoor garden use and how do I buy it? I've seen lots of British garden shows that feature really slick looking garden accents done in stainless steel. Sometimes it's a 6-inch wide cap for lawn edging, sometimes it's used for crazy water features like this one.

I'm building some long low planter boxes to put on a deck and if I could clad them in thin stainless sheets I think it'd make an amazing contrast and look. Googling around for stainless steel turns up all sorts of industrial suppliers making round tubing and the sheets I can find come in zillions of thicknesses and grades. I've looked at large general home centers like Home Depot and Lowes, but haven't found anything there either.

I want the end result to look something like the square planter here, but you know, silver.

Any ideas where to find sheets of stainless steel that isn't too pricey? Any idea how easy it is to bend with proper tools?
