Japanese music. I like Polysics and Plus-Tech Squeezebox. What else would I like? Are there any good English-language blogs about music of the Orient?

I had made up my mind to purchase a Squeezebox from Slim Devices, but I see that they have been acquired by Logitech. Should this make any difference to my decision in the long or short term? Are Logitech likely to make the server software more proprietary/less open to DIY?

Today I saw a Slim Devices SqueezeBox 3. Just read a review at NYT. Looks pretty neat. That said, I have zero interest or use for the radio/pandora aspect of it. However, the other features may make it worth the price tag. But, before I shell out... what are my other alternatives? (On OS X) [more inside]

1. How do I control where a tree I am cutting down will land?
2. I want a stationary mp3 player that fits on top of my stereo. Does anything like that exist - and who produces it?
