Sporting suggestions

Winter is coming... and I need an indoor sport to play. What sport can you recommend that is not fitness-as-sport (so weightlifting is out), not gear-heavy (hockey is out), not done totally solo (speed skating is out; interactive one-on-one competition like squash is OK), and works up a sweat (range shooting is out)? Looking for a woman's sports watch with no exposed metal.

My wife would like a sports watch. She doesn't need GPS or fancy gadgetry, just something to wear to the gym. She needs large digital numbers that can be read easily while she's moving, and some timing functions. The problem is that she's allergic to metal, so anything that would touch her skin would have to be leather or plastic--the strap, the buckle, the back of the case, and any buttons on the side. I've looked in sporting goods stores but only found metal on the backs of cases, and that's something that's hard to tell online. Any recommendations? [more inside]

What is meant by a "blind scramble"?

Search results indicate this term being used synonymously with "mad scramble", but also as something to do with sports tournaments. Apart from being evocative, does it mean anything specific?

What can I do to feel better after I jolted my body in a fall?

I fell on the back of my head yesterday while playing kickball. I did the right thing and went to the ER, and got the all-clear: no concussion. I felt fine but headachey last night. Today I feel quite bad, and I'm not sure what I should be doing. Sporty-people, help? [more inside]

Field Club at AT&T Park?

A friend and I will be seeing a baseball game tomorrow at AT&T Park -- Section FC 107, behind visitors' dugout. Other than going in by a special entrance, what are the benefits of sitting in Field Club level? I want to take advantage of the advantages, since I'm sure the tickets cost $$$$$$$$$$$$.

What is this game called... "Asia ball"?

Earlier today I watched a short clip of 2 teams playing a game of... what, exactly? It was an indoor game, and there were field hockey / small soccer goals on each end of the court. Like soccer there were around 10 people for each team, but unlike soccer players seemed to use only their hands to pass the ball -- they couldn't kick it or dribble it, but they could bounce it to each other or into the goal. The ball itself was smaller than a basketball, maybe about the size of a small volleyball. Anyone know what this game might be? This game was between teams from mainland China and Taiwan and the clip was from a Hong Kong news show, so that all leads me to suppose this might be a game played only in Asia. Bonus points if you know the name of it in Chinese!

What's the point of getting fit if I can't go out and injure myself?

I've recently finally gotten really fit and in shape, after spending most of my 27 years...not doing that. I've been looking for something local and athletic to do, both for fun and for fitness, but since I haven't played sports since I was 12 or so, my skills are lacking. However, all the local instruction is oriented towards youth, so I turn to you folk for aid. How can an sports newb adult learn how to play? [more inside]

Me love hockey!

I just called TWC to see if they'd offer some sort of retention deal - instead, right after saying "I'd like to cancel" the rep followed with "What day would you like us to pick up the equipment?" Crap. So right now we have someone scheduled to come out in a week, and we have to decide if we're going to call back and keep the cable service or really go through with this. (Or try this again?) We wouldn't even have cable were it not for our need of NHL coverage. [more inside]

Help me deal with a bully in an otherwise positive competitive sports environment.

I train in a martial art at a place with an active competitive team, which I am trying to join. The other person there who is my size/skill level and on the competitive team goes very hard with me in sparring and always leaves me injured/bruised to a greater degree than any other student. How can I work around this situation or have a mature and productive confrontation about it, given that I still want to compete so I cannot avoid working with this person 100%? [more inside]

I have a baseball hat that was recently given to me by my brother on his trip through Wisconsin. It is a Milwaukee Brewers Cooperstown Franchise hat which has a "1989" stamped on the back. My son, a soccer player and avid Manchester City and Manchester United fan, is turning 17 on the date of the Man City vs Man United match (April 28th, 2012). Futbol, football.. soccer is such a silly name.

Soccer, offsides. Teams A and B. Team B has all its players, except for the goalie, on Team A's side of the field. If a player from Team A is now on Team B's side of the field (over midfield), is he offsides, or did the opposing team 'give up' their offsides advantage?
