The Olympic Games is large: it contains multitudes. From living in the UK and US, I'm aware of how differently it's presented: the BBC is a little bit nationalistic but mostly treats it as a glorious global sporting carnival; NBC makes it a soft-focus rah-rah-USA reality show with lots of commercials. But how does it come across in other countries? [more inside]
I'm about to be the only Brit in a US Fantasy Football League. My NFL knowledge isn't bad, and I'm a veteran Premier League FF player, so what should I be reading and listening to both ahead of the draft and throughout the season in order to compete? [more inside]
I'm riding a 62 mile event on Sunday, my second ever. This time, I'd like to be sure to include the best pre-ride regimen I can manage. AskMe, can you advise me on good practices re: what to eat and drink tomorrow and Sunday a.m? [more inside]
Looking for sports podcasts which are not sports news or discussion of sports news. More sports documentary, if you will. [more inside]
Are there any? The only possibilities I can immediately think of are Lawn Bowls and Shooting. And maybe varieties of race car driving (I'm not sure if there's a physical fitness component to this at all?) Is there anything you could say this of that IS a more physical sport?
I'd like to see youtube clips of sports moments that are of the variety "OMG, did he do that on PURPOSE?" for example nutmeg goal in soccer, something that requires great anticipation/awareness, on the intelligent side of sport. Moments where a player did something before the play had even developed to a point where one could realize what was going to happen

A question on vocabulary. Why are some Olympic sports listed as "ladies" events, while others are "women's"? Ski jumping is for ladies. Ice Hockey is for women.
I'm interested in any information about the training regime of elite sportspeople in any kind of sport, the more detail the better. I imagine that this will be hard to find as many will keep this under wraps in order to maintain a competitive advantage. I'm also especially interested in more recent information because I suspect that developments in technology and technique mean that things have changed a lot in the past twenty years or so
Does the significance of a game really affect performance? Is having experience at higher levels a deciding factor in outcomes? Because I'd think that professional athletes don't get to where they are without the kind of focus that makes those considerations irrelevant. [more inside]
Back in the day, there were two styles of bikes that I was aware of – road bikes and mountain bikes. Now there are road bikes, mountain bikes, hybrid bikes, and cyclocross bikes. This is very exciting – as more options – but also subtly confusing. [more inside]

Hello. I am signed up to run the Manchester 10 k on 26 May. I have never run any kind of race in my life before, and am REALLY „not sporty“ though I am used to hiking/cycling. I have not, to put it mildly, trained as much as I should. By now I can jog for 2.5 – 3 km in half an hour, and have mostly „trained“ on the treadmill rather than outdoors (I strained a muscle running outdoors and feel like it’s my muscles and joints that are most struggling with the running rather than anything „cardio“ related as such. So my actual question: is it still possible to get myself into a condition where I can get round the route without walking it and without injuring myself (too badly) in the remaining time? Flying out to Vancouver this weekend for work, and it'd be great to find somewhere to watch the final Six Nations rugby matches. Can anyone reccommend a good, friendly place that might be showing them? Staying in Downtown, so somewhere nearish there would be good!

I'm looking for software that will help me schedule play and practice sessions for teams in a sports league. Ideally, the software would be free and be flexible enough to take into account: the number of teams, how many times each team should play each other, & the number of available fields. [more inside]
Looking to try rock climbing for fitness and mental health, but I don’t have many friends who do it currently and honestly not interested in a social experience if or until I get any good. It seems like it’d be a great sport for me but I’m daunted by the need for belaying partners and all that business. Is this a sport that you even can do solo, or are there other sports that involve a combination of strength and puzzle solving I should be looking at?

I think I'm in okay shape. I lift weights 4 times a week, play soccer and have a good diet filled with vegetables, fruit and lean proteins. My body makes all kinds of crazy cracking noises (from my ankles to my shoulders) during and after exercise. Do professional athletes have this problem or am I not in as good shape as I thought?

I used to produce a public radio show and do journalism. I love writing and the work of program-making. They say everyone should change their careers at least once in their life. I moved in fundraising, which I do not honestly think is in itself a career. Since October 2010 I am the commercial director of a pro basketball team in England. I don't know how long the job will last but it has brought a lot of meaning to my life to do real executive producing again. I would like to find a mentor in sports business but most mentoring organizations in the UK are not equipped to deal with this request. What are some logical resources in Europe and the USA I should be looking at?

I coach a high school soccer team. Each practice we go through a routine which involves repetitions of various skills. The number of repetitions accomplished by a player for each skill is recorded in an excel spreadsheet for ranking purposes. I want to determine the rate of improvement so the players can see their progress and who's improving most. Is there a simple excel function that would help me do this?
