Since I’ve started enjoying A(ustralian)BC’s Soundproof podcast I've come to realize that beyond the CBC and BBC, my podcasts are very U.S.-centric. What are some good English-language podcasts from other parts of the globe? While news roundtables like Sinica are good, I'm primarily interested in spoken word or well-produced radio pieces, like Everything Is Stories, This Is Actually Happening, Love + Radio, and Unfictional. Thanks!
I recently bought a pair of Aftershokz bone conduction headphones, with the express purpose of using these to listen to podcasts, audiobooks etc. without shutting out the sounds of the world around me when hiking. As hoped, they work brilliantly, so I'm now looking for new ideas of what to listen to when spending quality alone time surrounded by nature. [more inside]
Inspired by hearing Reg E. Cathey reading Charles Mingus's instructions on cat toilet training, I am looking for other funny/touching/compelling recordings of people with interesting voices and styles reading short (under 10 minutes, roughly) pieces from other artists and writers. [more inside]
When I was a teenager I heard a spoken word track about how someone came to be in the band Black Flag and I've been fascinated by it ever since. I presume it's Henry Rollins but if it is I've not been able to find out which track it is. [more inside]
What songs fuse poetry or spoken word with music? The closest I can think of are Baz Luhrmann's "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)" and Poe's "Hey Pretty". I'd be especially interested in mashups that do this.
I'm looking for a few short stories to read aloud to ESL students between 13 and 16 years old, each divisible into a few 15- to 20-minute chunks, and each engaging. [more inside]
Did I really hear this weird bit of surreal poetry by (I think) Peter Gabriel on the radio years ago?
When I was about 15 (circa 1994), I remember listening to some sort of radio program (on NPR or similar) wherein they played an extremely bizarre bit of surreal spoken-word verse by a very young Peter Gabriel. Or at least I *think* it was Peter Gabriel. In any case, I would love to hear it again and actually learn what album/collection it came from. Presuming I didn't imagine this weird thing involving a train and a golden rod... [more inside]

I love songs where a story is spoken (not sung) over backing music that adds to the story, but doesn't overtake it. Almost a spoken-word narrative over music. Help me find some amazing examples. [more inside]

I'm looking for podcasts or other spoken word recordings, with the feel of the early Henry Rollins or recent Marc Maron: strongly cathartic, really aggro, with quasi-intellectual ambitions, seemingly able to talk on any issue, vaguely politically progressive, sometimes hyperpersonal. [more inside]
