I have this document
to print. Most of the pdf file is in landscape oriented pages, with two of what would be the (portrait oriented) printed pages side by side on each pdf page. I assume they've done this for ease of reading on a computer screen. I want, however, to print to two 8.5x11 pages for each of their pdf pages.
Additional difficulty: Since I'm travelling, I have only access to the local public library Windows printer software, which offers 2x2 splitting, for four printed pages per one pdf page, but no 1X1 splitting.
I do have a linux laptop with me. Could I perhaps use gimp -- which I've never used before -- to produce pre-split pdf file? Or some other tool?

Within the next few weeks, I need to split up a pair of rescue dogs. My main question is whether there is any particularly “best” way to manage this split. Also any assurance that I am not going to permanently emotionally damage the doggies would be much appreciated. [more inside]

I used to be able to shampoo, blow dry, and curl my hair and then sleep on it for a day or two at a time to spare my ends daily heat damage. Then I got bangs. My bangs get oily mere hours after I get out of the shower, forcing me to shower, dry, and style my hair every day and accumulate the repercussions of constant heat contact. Dry shampoo makes my hair look even oilier. So how can I keep my roots/bangs oil-free and my ends healthy? [more inside]

I am in the process of transferring several home videos from vhs tapes to mpeg files on my computer. I have transferred each vhs tape to a single file on my computer. Each file is roughly 3 - 6gb. Each vhs tape consisted of several clips that were recorded on different dates. So, I'd like to split each of the larger files into several smaller files. Is there a simple to use program that will allow me to achieve this.

Four of us are going away for the Fourth using a rental car. Two will return Friday with the car (they need to get back for work) and the other two will go back Sunday with another friend who has extra room in his car. We are all friends, some of us are quite...thrifty.
How should we split the cost of the car?

I'm starting to get a few requests for speaking engagements and seminars, and I'm not quite sure what to expect on the business side of things. At the moment, these are private individuals who have a little experience with event planning, and know that I could draw a decent audience to a workshop. I'm a little unsure about how profits should be split between me and the organizer. I don't have a problem with the organizer making some money, but I'm the one providing the content, and I want to be fairly compensated. How does this generally work? [more inside]

Asking for a friend: I am considering moving into a two bedroom apartment with a couple. I would have one room (the smaller one), and they would occupy the master bedroom. Their room is very large -- close to twice the size of mine. What would be an equitable split of the rent? All utilities are included in the rent.

I have hundreds of text strings entered through a form in a Google Spreadsheets which look like 4*3 9*2 17*3 22 37*4 52
. I can easily substitute " " for "+" and concatenate a "=" in front
. Now I have a text string which looks like a formula but isn't one.
How can I make Google Spreadsheets interpret this string as a formula? [more inside]

Looking at the earlier soup post, I thought I might make a nice split pea soup. Alas, I have no ham bone. I then thought I might like to try a good vegetarian version, but one of my favorite parts of the split pea experience is the salty smokey part of the soup-- which it gets from the ham. Does anyone have a good meatlovers vegetarian split pea soup recipe (if that makes sense)?

14 years ago I was given a baby grand piano for Christmas, where it lived at my mother's house until now. She recently remodeled and sold it (with my full agreement) since I have no room for it and interstate moving would cost as much as a new piano. She wants to give me the proceeds since it was my present, but I think we should at least
split it since it was a really expensive gift and it has remained at her house. What do you think? [more inside]

SafariFilter or AppleScriptFilter: I very often collect bookmarks of pages I'd like to look at in Safari, through the double magic of NetNewsWire and Saft. The problem is that I end up having one folder with 180+ bookmarks in it. I often then manually split them into chunks of 20 using cut and paste, but it strikes me that there's got to be an easier way to do that automatically via AppleScript. However, my google-fu
fails me in that respect.
Anyone know of a link to an AppleScript that takes one bookmark folder and splits it into folders with x
number of bookmarks each in them? Or any AppleScript master and MeFi resident out here savvy enough to whip one up for me?
I'll send you a cute picture of my cat sunning himself in a sunbeam, if you want. :)
