Is spending money on a large wedding worth it?

We just got engaged and are now in the research/planning process for our wedding. We are considering many options, from destination wedding (not likely, but in the running), large local wedding, small local wedding, or anything in between. The question that keeps popping up is: Is spending a huge chunk of money on our wedding worth it? [more inside]

Let go from job—flexible spending account deactivated, $1,800 lost.

I was recently let go from a job that wasn't working out after a few months. I had signed up for the employer's Flexible Spending Account to apply pre-tax dollars from my paycheck towards healthcare and transportation costs. They turned off my card the day I was let go and I cannot access the ~$1,800 (of my own money) on the card. Both they and AmeriFlex (FSA provider) claim their hands are tied and they cannot disburse any of the money. [more inside]

Help me get my food budget under control

My food budget has always been higher than I'd like due to the fact that I eat a lot, and generally eat very healthy. Lately, though, it's been spiraling out of control. I'm looking for suggestions on how to stop blowing money on expensive things I can't afford, as well as how to generally get things under control given my very specific dietary needs (would-be ethical vegan who doesn't process starches well). I want to dress like an adult, but I'm paralyzed by the idea of spending

I've recently started working in a new office where everybody dresses quite well. Prior to this, I was in full-time student mode, so I never cared about what I wore. I want to start looking more put-together. It shouldn't be this difficult to buy about 5-6 basics to update my office wardrobe, but I am SO. PARALYZED. at the idea of having to spend money on more than 1-2 items at a time. I waste hours and hours looking at clothes online and never buy a single item. This needs to stop. [more inside]

How to curb impulsive spending on anti anxiety supplements?

I have anxiety/impulsivity/depression for which I am on medication. I recently was looking into anti-anxiety supplements since my meds don't work on my anxiety as well as they do for my depression. I bought a lot of them, some of which I only used for a while then stopped although I am still using many of them. I have gone on these spending binges before, and most of the time it is health related. What can I tell myself in the moment to stop myself from spending my cash? [more inside]

Too much, yet never enough: residual anxiety over spending

There was a time in my childhood when my family was poor. Our situation improved as I grew up. But I must've somehow picked up this anxiety about things such as food and clothing. Make supplemental income

I asked earlier about how to invest my savings (twenty-five thousand). And although a lot of the answers were good, many were not realistic for someone living in Canada, as our tax laws are different. Also, I have decent retirement fund already so I don't want to put anything into that. So for now I'm just keeping it in my 3% savings account until I decide later what to do with it. [more inside]

Fighting/rectifying a mistake made by FSA admins

Please help me stop spending money that I don't have.

I keep buying things that I cannot afford, which forced me to dip into savings over and over again. I have a credit card balance that I cannot pay off this month, which has never happened to me before in my life. I'm feeling helpless, and I am angry at myself for letting this happen. I haven't quite reached paycheck to paycheck status (I am about 1 month ahead), but if I continue like this, my cushion will be gone completely. I don't know what is wrong with me or why I keep doing this - or why it has gotten so much worse. I had always thought that I was pretty good with money while living with my parents; after moving out, either i have gotten much worse or having few expenses masked the problem. I will take any advice or suggestions.

How much time do you spend budgeting and tracking spending?

How much time do you spend each week or month budgeting, tracking spending, thinking about your money, paying bills, etc.? These are tasks that I hate, and I , therefore, do not dedicate enough time to do them. Right now money comes in (paychecks are automatically deposited into my checking and savings accounts) and money goes out (bills are paid automatically by my banks and I spend cash and use my debit card). However, I'm not tracking everything I spend (I know that I should be), and I'm not budgeting for the future. I have a (very) small savings, but basically live paycheck to paycheck. I know that tracking spending and budgeting are the way out of this trap, but I'm loathe to get started (again--I've tried before), because of how much time I anticipate it will take. If you are tracking spending and budgeting on a regular (weekly?) basis, how much time does this activity take in order to have a clear picture of your finances and adequately plan for the future? Thanks in advance for your replies.
