What is up with the spam in the Gawker comments? Why have they not been able to filter them out yet? [more inside]
I run a Worpress site, hosted by Dreamhost. We are about to make a memorial announcement. This will drive a lot of traffic to the site, including hundreds of comments and potentially thousands of hits. I am the only one who runs the site and I need to be prepared. What do I need to do? Who is Hipolito M. Wiseman, and why is he leaving all those spam comments? [more inside]
Best blogging software to allow easy commenting by strangers but avoiding comment spam. [more inside]
WordpressFilter: Haven't blogged in about three months, and am considering a return at the same URL, but don't want to inherit all my old spam comments. Would deleting the Wordpress installation at that address then re-installing it essentially reset the spam, allowing me to better control it this time? FWIW, I've been using Akismet, etc., to monitor and catch most spam but would like as clean a slate as possible.
My co-blogger and I upgraded from Movable Type 2.64 to MT 3.2, mostly for the rumored spam-fighting hottness. But now we're finding ourselves having to go through and manually junk thousands of spam comments every day, tediously picking out the real stuff. We've got the latest MT-Blacklist installed, but it doesn't seem to be doing a thing, and seems to have less functionality (where'd the de-spam option go??) than our old MT-Blacklist plugin. We're getting buried, and nothing seems to be working the way it should. What do we do? [more inside]
How can I get Gmail to whitelist all my blog comment notifications? [more inside]
Recently my blog has been getting comments consisting of gibberish linking to gibberish URLs. Unlike normal spam, they cannot be removed en masse via MT-Blacklist and have to be pried out one by one, and there's no way of preventing more of them without moving to pre-authorized comments (which this may force me to do). My question: cui bono? Who's getting something out of this? [more inside]
I came home from my two week vacation to find an enormous amount of comment spam on my MT weblog. I've now read this so I guess I know how to stop it from happening again (if I can figure out all the tech stuff), but deleting is turning out to be a nightmare. Is there some easier way to delete this than going into each post and individually deleting the spam comments?
