I'm trying to attend an undergrad program for psychology in Spain. I plan to apply directly to the school, not through a U.S. study abroad program. I'm thinking Seville or Madrid. My problem is that I have missed many deadlines for the coming semester in beginning in September. This would be the introductory semester. From what I can find on the websites it appears that the years/semesters are programed pretty specifically unlike U.S. colleges. Does anyone have experience jumping into a Spanish university without starting from the exact beginning of a program? I suppose this may be similar in other European countries. Please feel free to chime in if you have experience in other countries as well. Thanks all!
I'm investigating the possibilities of working as independent contractor for a US company while under a student visa in Spain. YANML, but can you help point me in the right direction? [more inside]

What does the mocking expression "chorizocracia" mean in Castillian Spanish? I get the literal meaning: "Sausage-ocracy" but I think there's a slangy connotation that I, as a non-native, am missing here. What does the term "chorizo" imply in a political context? Thanks!

Plenty of people are using .es (Spain) domain names for sites unrelated to Spain, but is this safe? According to nic.es, "Any individual or legal entity with interests in or ties to Spain has the right to acquire the domain.". Even at a stretch, I can't claim that for the domain/site I have in mind (I'm in the UK; site would be international but initially English only), it's purely about constructing a gimmicky English phrase (yeah, I'm not generally a huge fan of that kind of thing). I need a laundromat in Madrid, Spain. They seem to not exist and the threads online that list a few are quite old and the locations no longer exist (see: this thread and note. Surely this is not so. If none exists, an acceptable laundry service that will, for a reasonable price, wash and dry clothes without heavily perfumed (or perfume free) detergent [not a dry cleaning] will do... preferably near Gran Via, but anywhere will do at this point.

The sum total of my international traveling experience has been to take day trips into Baja (while I lived in LA) and day trips into Windsor (when I lived near Detroit,) two days in Toronto for my brother's wedding, and, oh yes, three hours walking around Niagara Falls last week because I was so happy I found my passport. Now I want to go to Europe, by myself, before my parents (who have been everywhere else first) beat me (they're going in September of 2011.) [more inside]

I'm off to Asturias, Spain at the end of May. What should I do while I'm there? I like beaches/snorkeling and also weird cultural stuff (for example, in Berlin I loved the Dead Chickens Studio and in Prague I loved the crazy metronome and fake Starbucks at the bottom of its hill).

I'm going to Spain for a bit and want, if possible, to get a pay-as-you-go Spainish sim card for my (unlocked) iPhone that will allow me to use data at a reasonable price. I'm in Madrid this semester, and would like to pick up an old rangefinder camera (film) or similar for around 20 euros. Is digging around antique shops and similar my best bet? Do you know a place? Or are there actually some not-terribly-expensive used camera shops in this big pretty city? Are there secondhand shops/thrift stores at all in this town? Aware of El Rastro, tried once with no luck and will probably try again Sunday. I'll also be in London next weekend and am not opposed to buying it there if you know a place. [more inside]

In a few weeks I will be moving to Madrid (Spain) for 3-6 months. I am used to cycling to work and I am trying to determine if that might be possible there. Is it common to see cyclists on the road in Madrid? Are there cycling lanes? Are drivers used to driving around cyclists or am I having a deathwish? Any further pointers, opinions and advice highly appreciated. Thanks!
I'm leaving for Spain tomorrow and going to Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, and Cordoba. Can anyone recommend any truly bizarre museums in any of these cities? I'm a big fan of things like deformed fetuses in jars and old medical instruments. Other types of off-beat, funny museum suggestions would be great too. Thanks!
