My planned holiday to Europe in Sept/Oct has been postponed, and now I have three weeks to go..... somewhere.
I'm female, early thirties and will be flying out of Sydney. I enjoy my own company and love to travel. Please suggest places to go and things to do that I will enjoy by myself. Preferences after the jump. [more inside]

Tugafi: where in South London should i go to watch the Portugal/Spain game tomorrow? I'd like to watch in a Portuguese place, not a Spanish one. There are 30,000 Portuguese in South London, I think mainly around Vauxhall, Brixton, Stockwell. I know there are a bunch of restaurants on South Lambeth Road, but not sure how good they'll be for the football. We'll hopefully be between 5 and 10 people. Suggestions?

Any tips for a burner newbie? I'm going to Nowhere
in Spain, not Burning Man itself. I've selected a barrio already. Any pointers for a kilt that's suitable for 40°C days, as well as potentially cold nights, preferably with pockets?

After some recent immersion in learning Spanish, watching Spanish films and going to Spanish conversation Meetups, I have realised I might want to have a go at teaching English as a Second Language in either Barcelona or Madrid. I have a few questions about the feasability of this at my age (42) given that the Spanish economy is not in great shape and my resume has a massive hole in it. [more inside]

I’m planning to visit Spain for a 90 day period in the coming Spring. Simple question: Where do we need to eat and sleep in Madrid and Barcelona?
We are planning a summer trip to Spain (4 nights in Madrid, 2 nights in Barcelona, 1 night in Girona).
The Girona portion of the trip is set -- dinner at El Celler de Can Roca
for an extravagant birthday experience.
What we need are suggestions for restaurants and hotels in Madrid and Barcelona.
(We're also planning day trips to Segovia and Toledo, so you could include lunch spots in those places if you'd like.)
A few notes: we are fairly sophisticated dinners, but we also love simple, straightforward food-of-the-people. Our hotel tastes run toward contemporary/modern, but we're not opposed to something classic -- we just want to avoid international chains.
Thanks for any/all suggestions!

I'm trying to attend an undergrad program for psychology in Spain. I plan to apply directly to the school, not through a U.S. study abroad program. I'm thinking Seville or Madrid. My problem is that I have missed many deadlines for the coming semester in beginning in September. This would be the introductory semester. From what I can find on the websites it appears that the years/semesters are programed pretty specifically unlike U.S. colleges. Does anyone have experience jumping into a Spanish university without starting from the exact beginning of a program? I suppose this may be similar in other European countries. Please feel free to chime in if you have experience in other countries as well. Thanks all!

Plenty of people are using .es (Spain) domain names for sites unrelated to Spain, but is this safe? According to nic.es
, "Any individual or legal entity with interests in or ties to Spain has the right to acquire the domain.". Even at a stretch, I can't claim that for the domain/site I have in mind (I'm in the UK; site would be international but initially English only), it's purely about constructing a gimmicky English phrase (yeah, I'm not generally a huge fan of that kind of thing). I need a laundromat in Madrid, Spain. They seem to not exist and the threads online that list a few are quite old and the locations no longer exist (see: this thread and note
Surely this is not so. If none exists, an acceptable laundry service that will, for a reasonable price, wash and dry clothes without heavily perfumed (or perfume free) detergent [not a dry cleaning] will do... preferably near Gran Via, but anywhere will do at this point.
