Does anyone know where (or even if) I can get hold of a copy of the 1980's SABC (South African TV) series 'The John Ross Story: An African Adventure'
, made and set around the same time and locations as their excellent 'Shaka Zulu'
series? I know it exists but I can find no mention of its availability in any format, or even at the IMDB... Thanks in advance!

I've got friends from Bloomington, Indiana driving up to Chicago to visit for a few days. They were going to take the Amtrak out of Indianapolis, but the schedule is extremely inconvenient. I'm thinking they should drive up and try and park near a Metra or CTA station on the south side of Chicago, and take public transportation into the city. Any suggestions on what would be the best station to pick?

Work is sending me to New Orleans in February. I've never been to the US South, and I'd like to extend my trip with a little road trip to get a sense of what makes the South unique and wonderful and especially photogenic. Can you help with suggestions? [more inside]

MusicFilter: Mrs. Billtron would like more music like the opening song from HBO's True Blood, "Bad Things" by Jace Everett
. She likes the sound of Chris Isaak and Junior Brown, which are the closest things in our mp3 collection, but misses the spooky vampire and warewolve ambience of the theme song. Any suggestions? Suggestions should err on the side of New Orleans rather than Nashville, since she just got back from Louisiana and really misses it.
PS I am really enjoying reading Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale
at the moment.

I need help planning a 50 minute presentation for a Holocaust remembrance day relating to the apartheid in South Africa. It will be focused on the music of South Africa, after giving some background information. Did I mention that it is for a bunch of 7th/8th graders and is happening on Wednesday?

I've been considering a position in Jackson, Mississippi. The job would be fantastic and a real step-up. The folks there seem eager to have me. The problem is Mississippi. My parents and sister now live there, but pretty far south (Picayune). I live in PA and before this mostly in the Midwest. Will I fit in? [more inside]

I am looking for a good area of South Bend, Indiana to live. I am moving for a new job (which I got thanks to mefi help!!) and am looking for apartments. I do not know the area whatsoever. I have around $700 a month to spend and need it to house two people. Any thoughts on locations and what areas to avoid? I know I can browse online but do not even know what are the better (safer) areas...

An upper class white Southern lady says of an athlete while watching sports on TV: "Look at him, he's dark. He's like charcoal." Is that a racist comment or am I oversensitive? There were no black people in the room when the comment was made. It made me uncomfortable but I didn't say anything.

Anybody have good recomendations on eating and nightlife in South Beach? Primarily interested in ceviche, cuban food, seafood, lighter fare, not really interested in Italian or big heavy meals. We have a reservation at Talula, thinking about Ola and would like to know about some of the newer places. Price does not matter. Nightlife we like loungey chill places, maybe a club one night if its worth it, not interested in sports bars, etc. Any other tips appreciated. We will be in town from a Thursday to Sunday.

In the "Casa Bonita" episode of South Park, Jimmy tells the setup of a knock-knock joke:
-Ingmar Bergman, who?
Before he can tell us the punchline, he is literally punched-out by Cartman. So my question is, does anyone know of an existing punchline to this joke? My hunch is that the South Park guys just made this one up. And if that's the case, can anyone think of a great punchline for this setup?

I'm an Aussie who is going to be spending a month in northern Georgia, in the area of Cedartown/Tallapoosa
visiting his girlfriend's mother and boyfriend for Christmas.
I'm looking for cheap and interesting things to see and do in the area -the weirder the better. I'm not adverse to travelling into Atlanta.
Any advice you could give would be much appreciated!
