how to make a pallet wall without nailing?

I'm planning a recording studio on the cheap. For aesthetics, and as a way of diffusing some sound, I'm thinking about reclaimed pallet wood as a covering. Is there a glue product that would be suitable for this (it seems like pretty low grade wood is used for pallets) so that I'm not making many additional holes in the wall? [more inside]

Help me make my curtains as noiseproof as possible

I live on a busy London street and am making curtains for a second-floor room with 2 large wooden sash windows that face the street. Guests sometimes sleep in this room and I'd like to minimise street noise for their sake. My curtain materials are 1 layer of this heavy woven tapestry fabric (mostly cotton) and 1 layer of blackout fabric. Should I also be interlining the curtains with some kind of fluffy stuff, like quilt batting? Or would that be overkill? [more inside]

Need soundproofing ideas to keep confidential conversations confidential

The nonprofit that I work with just moved into a new office. The walls between offices do a lousy job of blocking sound - I can hear conversations being held in the next room in a fairly normal tone of voice. Management understands this is a problem but every dollar spent on facilities is less money to care for clients. Need to know what to propose beyond the ubiquitous white noise machines. [more inside]

Calling all window experts for a soundproofing question

The pallet-dropping saga continues. After talking with various government employees, I finally got in touch with a person in code enforcement who stoically informed me that, since the business is zoned for agricultural, they are allowed to work 24 hours a day and do whatever they well please and there's not a thing we can do about it. How can I make this white-noise machine switch on when I close a door?

I plan to buy this white-noise generator. I'd like it to be set up so that the machine is positioned outside the door to a room, and when the door is closed, the machine turns on, in order to muffle sound from that room. I am trying to figure out how to set this up. Maybe I could connect the machine to a switch positioned inside the door frame, so that when the door is closed it presses down on the switch?

Reusing and/or recycling drywall for soundproofing ceiling project

I am planning to attempt to soundproof my ceiling of my condo. I plan to use a method that includes adding drywall/green glue between the floor joists and then adding additional drywall below. (example) I was wondering if there were any problems in carefully tearing down the drywall that is there and using it for the smaller areas between the floor joists (i.e., taking down larger pieces out, cutting them to size, and using them for the inner floor joist area). I'd have to get new drywall for the outside, but I am trying to minimize cost and waste. Is this reasonable?

Home Recording Studio

I'd like to set up a cheap "recording studio" for dialogue (not music). I'm shooting for NPR/"This American Life" audio-quality. What do I need and how much will it cost me? I'll probably have to do this in my apartment, so considerations include sound-proofing a small room in addition to recording equipment. One thing I don't need is a PC or sound-editing software. I have that. But I need recommendations for recording devices, mics, etc. This is for "audio drama" in which several people might be talking at once.
