I am *finally* getting an assistant to help me tackle my workload and upcoming projects, which has been a chaotic undertaking for one person. She's really smart and retentive in exactly the way an awesome assistant should be... we're determined to get super organized as a team so I want to start off on the right foot and be able to focusing on monetizing instead of answering email all day. Here's my question: what are the best apps/sites/software nowadays to manage and document big workloads, contacts, meetings, tasks brainstorms, and overall projects and stay organized easily as a team? I know there has to be some great new stuff out there that I haven't heard of. [more inside]

Please, please, please tell me there's an alternative way to do this - weather an automatic service, or a stand alone program, or some multi-step conversion nightmare. Thanks!

(Asking for a friend.) I need to find some sort of software that lets you both record yourself through a webcam (showing the image live in a window on the screen) and (not simultaneously) play a pre-recorded video in the same screen. I'm looking for a software package that will function as an alert marquee. i have a series of displays that I would like to have a banner across the top of the screen. I'd like this software to monitor a mailbox or receive an RPC message to display a short message. Basically I want a desktop version of a text message alert for a few status monitor PCs with large wall mount monitors. Does anyone have an existing solution? I'd prefer not to have to write my own.
I had been using a mac to keep my media files and had been using "Ripit" to rip my DVD's and "identify" to tag the resulting files and put into itunes to watch on Apple TV. Due to file space I have moved to a PC running Windows 7 to do this. And while I have found software to rip the DVD's I cannot find software to add the tags such as "synopsis", "cover art", and "episode details"? You suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Me-Fi

I would be interested in hearing case studies for software business failures that have occurred due to one or both of the following factors: - Wholesale replacement of entire engineering staff (e.g. firing all staff in original location and replacing with staff in a new location). - Winding down product development on existing products with the expectation that it will be replaced by a new platform in the future (I'm thinking along the lines of Ashton Tate here and their DBase product). I would also be interested in hearing any examples of where either of these strategies has been put into effect, and it been a success, rather than a failure. [more inside]
