Looking for software or a website for this specific function: I have an image, a map from several hundred years ago. I'd like to put pins on it, marking addresses of people. Ideally, I'd be able to label these pins with names, and then be able to search through those later on. [more inside]

I would like to create a font using someone's handwriting and am looking for a good software with which to do this. I'm not an expert in this, so it would have to have a small learning curve, unless it is really worth it for me to spend time learning so I can get reasonable results. [more inside]

I was having one of those "I walked to to school uphill both ways" discussions with friends and the question came up: What software product shipped on the largest number of floppy disks? I'm having trouble tracking it down, but I have some recollection that A/UX shipped on some insane number of diskettes, like 20 or 30, before Apple started selling it on a hard drive.
I am looking for a 2D animation toolkit that helps me animate various actors, like man, woman, cat and helps in realising various actions like sleeping, running, etc. with programmatical ease. I have looked into processing.org and started to toy with simple geometric shapes, but yet to stumble across an animation with man/woman actors. Could you help me find some good resources where I could learn to animate such things? TIA.
Inspired by Tiger and Woods' Gin Nation (sampling Imagination's Music & Lights), if I wanted to create some remixes of favorite old tracks, what software package would best enable me to do this? Cost is not so much of an issue, but I don't want to buy some package that I'll drown in and don't necessarily need all the bells and whistles of. I know there's a lot out there - that all come in basic/ normal/ whizz-bang versions - but need some help navigating. [more inside]

Looking for a website that lets me do this: For a set group of people, each submits a message. You can see who's sent a message, but not what the contents of the message are. When everyone's submitted a message, all the messages are revealed. This is for an online Magic: the Gathering tournament - we're having everyone submit an entry before anyone sees what anyone else submitted.

I am looking for a wonderful timer program for Mac (OS X 10.7.4 +). It needs to have a Cocoa GUI (meaning a GUI that isn't ugly, and isn't unnecessarily complicated), the ability to run multiple timers, and the ability to name timers with a decent amount of detail. Sound is an important feature, too. Command line alternatives are also cool, but not ideal. More information inside: [more inside]

Looking for book recommendations for Software Product Manager interview questions. [more inside]
Can I Convert Video Footage to Animation? We are making a video documentary about college students and their attitudes towards dating and sex. Much of the documentary involves one interviewer interviewing different people on the same set. As you might guess, many of the potential subjects are reluctant to speak candidly onscreen, BUT, most of them will consent to their voices being used…I am wondering if there is some not-crazily-expensive way to take a video interview and, using some kind of software, animate it, turning the interviewer and subject into animated avatars. The animation does not have to be super super high quality—a fairly simple avatar for each of the people onscreen will do…We have a lot of technical and post-production people on the crew, so someone involved probably has access to almost any software program available…Any help—especially specific programs or plug-ins—would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am *finally* getting an assistant to help me tackle my workload and upcoming projects, which has been a chaotic undertaking for one person. She's really smart and retentive in exactly the way an awesome assistant should be... we're determined to get super organized as a team so I want to start off on the right foot and be able to focusing on monetizing instead of answering email all day. Here's my question: what are the best apps/sites/software nowadays to manage and document big workloads, contacts, meetings, tasks brainstorms, and overall projects and stay organized easily as a team? I know there has to be some great new stuff out there that I haven't heard of. [more inside]

I'm to give a half an hour talk to a group of year 12 (snr high school) students as a really brief introduction to software development. Half an hour isn't a lot of time. Has anyone got an idea of an activity this small group (+/-10) can undertake to get them thinking as programmers? I'm generally casting around for ideas.
