Easiest way to rip and/or burn DVDs on my new Windows 8.1 laptop

I just received my first Win8.1 computer, and I am having some trouble adapting to the new interface. The computer I got has a DVD read-write drive, but I bought the "Signature Edition" of this laptop (Acer E5) from the Microsoft store and that means it doesn't come with the usual pile of bloatware. This is apparently both a good and a bad thing... [more inside]

How to promote my software to investors

I created a software library that should be useful to developers , even relative beginners, writing software for a variety of fields, but mainly for Engineering (Mechanical,Architecture). Help me track my mother's computer usage

My mother is 90-years-old and lives alone. We worry when she doesn't pick up for the phone or we haven't heard from her for a couple of days. She is actively-opposed to any sort of regular check-ins by phone or e-mail to us, and she also does not want to use any type of monitoring service for the elderly (such as Lifeline) She does, however, use e-mail and her computer on a daily basis. Is there any software I can install that would send out e-mail alerts to us when she has (or hasn't) used her computer in x amount of hours? I would, of course, ask her permission to do this, and I am fairly sure she would be okay with it. (Don't ask me what exactly the difference is between this and Lifeline, I think it has to do with the stigma of aging that a service like Lifeline implies, something she is quite sensitive about.)

Teaching on the sly

Music teaching n00b filter. I now have a tablet with ear training software I use in lessons and discovered the kids quite automatically pick up terms like "minor second" which I hadn't dreamt about teaching them yet. Just as they're in the app. Then when they're stuck on a melody on their instrument I say "go up a minor second here" and it works. Holy interval, batman! What are similar ways you use to teach musical concepts without being all obvious about it? Would it be correct to classify this as active/experiental learning and what are your favourite resources? Employee Performance Evaluation Software

I am looking for recommendations for simple software to assist our managers with doing their employee performance evaluations efficiently and timely. Our small company has about 20 employees, and we have previously used paper evaluations but would like to move toward software for this. I would like something where the manager selects a rating for a particular category, and the software auto-fills in some generic description text that the manager can then alter. Then the form can be exported to PDF. Integrated self-evaluations would be nice, but not necessary. [more inside]

Best font software for Mac?

Font Book isn't burly enough to handle my thousands of fonts, and it has now crashed twice. Its default of loading fonts as active contributes to its crashing, I believe. I'm currently looking at FontExplorerX Pro and Suitcase Fusion. Please share your advice on those two, or any other font management systems that are effective and not crazy expensive. Thank you! Does this software/web service exist?

I'm starting a blog, and I have this hunch that perhaps a service or program exists out there that allows you to: 1) Write, format, and save blog posts, as well as mark them as "ready" to publish, and 2) Automate publishing those ready posts chronologically onto your blog at a fixed rate or alternatively by selecting a publishing date and time for every post marked as ready. The theory being, I could write as many posts as I want on a given day, but schedule and automate their publishing. Does this sort of thing exist? [more inside]
