What non-Apple slideshow software should I acquire?

Windows 10. I need to acquire (buy if necessary) a good slideshow program. It must be able to output high-res .mov files as the stuff I'm creating is to be integrated into a movie project. Hopefully, it will afford me the ability to program some fairly complex moves, zooms, transitions (ie: not just a few stanard Ken Burns style defaults). Hopefully, I won't be in for a BIG learning curve as I have deadlines looming. [more inside]

How to get Neat scanner to stop asking me to sync!?

We bought a Neat scanner and installed the software. Now it is asking in a pop up window if we want to sync with the cloud. There is no way to turn this off and it asks 10,000 times a day. And I am not allowed to call customer service without a paid account. And the scanner does not seem to work without the software. [more inside]

Voice Recognition Software that can format papers in APA, MLA, etc.?

I'm an academic librarian and one of my patrons is a very bright young woman who is a visually impaired junior (3rd year uni student). She has a rare progressive neurological disease. She uses various programs (Voice Dream and something else the name of which I cannot remember) that read textbooks and academic journal articles to her. She is able to type somewhat but may gradually lose some of that capacity. She relies on her mom and grandma for a lot but neither ever went to college and there are things they can't help her with. Is there any Voice Recognition Software that can actually format her papers? Where if she tells it "APA cover page" it can do it with the words she speaks? Or "Chicago footnote"? [more inside]

what is a good windows utility for accessing an iso file as a disk

I would like to be able to use an image of a CD/DVD ( a .iso file on windows ) so that I can access that image as if it is an actual cd. In the past, maybe 3 years ago or so, I used "Virtual Clone Drive" which worked pretty well but I don't know if this is still a good choice. [more inside]

Best solution for ad-hoc parsing and reformatting of text?

I handle a lot of screenplays, recording scripts, game dialogue text tables, localization tables, and other text-related files. And I have a need to output to varying formats with varying goals--sometimes to reformat a screenplay to something more standard or to put text in a format that is ready to use by a game or other software. For simplicity's sake, assume that all input and output formats would be plain text. What is a good software tool to help with these format conversions? [more inside]

Software for a musical needle-drop test?

I'd like an application for my desktop, OS X computer that would basically simulate the dreaded "needle drop" test of music lit classes of yore: a random sample from a given list of recordings is played, and you have to identify the work (and perhaps the measure or movement). In practical terms, I should be able to load up a bank of mp3s, push a button, and be given a random clip of a pre-set time length. [more inside]

I'm looking for an easy freeware drum machine for rehearsing with.

I'd like to find a program that would play some pre-recorded or pre-programmed drum beats in various styles at user-defined tempos to practice playing music with. Something online would be OK but I'd prefer a freestanding Windows OS program. I don't want to have to use a sequencer to create my own beats.
