Am I bogging down my new iMac with software? I have a 20" Intel iMac with 512mb (adding another 1mb as soon as my Amazon rebate comes). I love it! This thing is so fast...starts up in about 10 seconds, responds quickly almost all the time. Once in a while it hesitates, I suppose due to a lot of programs open. [more inside]

Any Mac web designers used Rapidweaver
or Freeway Pro
? I know how to write valid (X)HTML and CSS, but I'm always looking for ways to save time and I was wondering if these tools actually produce valid, clean, and accessible code as advertised.

A good friend of mine uses the application BULK MAILER+ to maintain an address list for an academic organization. He uses various flags in the notes field to sort addresses by membership year, indicate specific officers of the organization, whether or not they organize sessions at each year's annual meeting, etc. However, now he's on OSX and we're wondering if the only option is to run the app in Classic (Satori Software seems to have no intention of creating an OSX version) - or is there something else he should be using?

We're looking to automate a batch process that can be pointed at a directory of image files. Those files will need to be inserted one by one into an InDesign template appropriate text changed in the file based on a CSV file, and then have the resulting document saved as an EPS file based on the original image file name. In less than a month, I've had Firefox crash on one machine -- a new G4 Powerbook relatively free from stuff like GUI mods, extra software, a million extensions, etc. -- more than 15 times. Usually, it's while doing something innocuous, like trying to open a new tab. I have the same problem on my G5. [more inside]

A recently purchased iBook comes with Zinio
, an application that allows for the onscreen reading of print magazines. I like the concept, and the interface is decent, but their selection is paltry and it all seems a bit too pricey. Still, I might be willing to give it a go. Does anyone use the service regularly? What do you think of it? Is there a comparable service out there that might be better? [more inside]

Years ago, I had occasion to use a very cool, interactive, drag-and-drop, graphical modeling application for Macs called 'Stella.' It was good for non-coders, like myself, to model systems and learn about their interactions and regulatory mechanisms. Does Stella still exist? Is there a similar application for Windows PCs?

I have a Palm Zire that I sync with my iBook. Calendar and To Dos sync with iCal and Address Books sync well, but I have to view my memos in the big bloated Palm Desktop. Is there an app for Mac to sync with Memos? Version Tracker has this
but I have always disliked Stickies, and would prefer a nice little app with a list of my memos all in one place if such a thing exists. Suggestions?

Music software for OSX question: A band of which I am quite fond has posted bootlegs for one of their shows on their Web site, as avi videos. I want to be able to listen to the goodness on my iPod, but I can't find any software that will convert the audio from the avi files to mp3s. VersionTracker and download.com yield various shady, non-working shareware or freeware packages.
