DIY Seltzer: We love seltzer/sparkling water at my house. We buy lots of it from the store. This seems wasteful. I've seen other questions asking about CO2 etc, but I'm interested in knowing what your experience has been with certain vendors/equipment. [more inside]

AlkaFilter: I have about a dozen vintage glass seltzer bottles. (We had a seltzer guy who came until about five years ago, and never picked up the last batch of bottles.) I'd like to refill/recharge them, but the only knowledge I have is that CO2 canisters exist for this purpose (though maybe not for this type of bottle?). Without a factory or ancient tools, do you think there might be a way to achieve this goal?

It seems that soda water (i.e. water with bubbles) doesn't hydrate me very well at all, even when consumed in great quantities. This is true of club soda, seltzer water, and sparkling mineral water. Is it all in my head or is there a good scientific explanation of this?
