A lot of my socks (plain black, mid-rise/crew, breathable) are getting thin or holey. I looked at previous women's socks questions on AskMe, and they recommended brands that don't ship to Canada (Uniqlo, Gold Toe, Smartwool, etc.) and can't be found in my city (Ottawa). What are the best women's appropriate-for-office-work socks I can get in Canada? [more inside]

A portmanteau for this man's poor toes:
Are Keen Newports good shoes for a long trip to Disney World in August? If not, what beats them? I mean, can I simply wear my running shoes?
Do you try on footwear like this with or without socks?
Do you allow extra room on the assumption that your feet will swell in the steam heat? [more inside]

I prefer to own only one type of sock, because it expedites the laundry, and when one wears out you haven't lost the pair. Sadly, my favorite socks appear to have been discontinued. Help me find a replacement! [more inside]

Askmefites always recommend socks. The best gift for dad, the best thing to spend money on, the best things to put on your feet, etc. Sometimes they recommend brands, sometimes they recommend uses of the socks. Usually, they just say "buy good socks". This is basically a question asking for more details. [more inside]

My six month old son has lots and lots of baby socks. Almost all of them fall off easily and are a pain in the butt EXCEPT one very special pair. The problem is that I have no idea where this particular pair came from so I haven't been able to buy more.
Please tell me where they came from so I can stock up! [more inside]

I'm looking for good quality men's dress socks. I want socks that are mid-calf and either solid brown or solid black. SmartWool's nice, but they are quite expensive and I also find their wide range of options baffling, so I'd like something cheaper and simpler. Would prefer someplace I can order from online (I'm in the U.S.). Thanks!

I probably have Raynauds although I've never gone to a doctor to verify.
I wear Merino wool socks because they seem to work best to help keep my feet warm (even though they are never really totally warm). However, my feet, even though still a bit cool, tend to sweat in wool and thus, I get athlete's foot (and I even wear mesh sneakers for better air circulation).
Any advice on keeping my feet warm yet dry? Does something wick better than wool yet insulate as good or better? Or any other ideas?

Feet and hands constantly icy but it's my feet that really annoy me.
I have read this thread
and several others, which gave me some great ideas, but wanting to see if there is any additional ideas for me.
Male, 6 foot, 160 lbs, mid 50s in age. No history of diabetes in family ever. Yes, I may have Raynauds, but not sure what to do about it other than try and find ways to keep my feet and hands warm. [more inside]

Continuing secret Santa filter: I'd like to buy socks in team colors for my secret Santa: Orioles, Ravens and the Maryland Terrapins. I know that she likes knee-high styles, as I've seen her wear them before. Aside from just searching for that on Amazon I'm not sure what to look for in terms of quality and comfort. Altogether I'd like to spend around $30 for all three. Physical retail locations would also be appreciated.

I'm teaching a summer course for 6-8 year olds on puppetry, and we are making sock puppets. I'm wanting to find affordable, bright socks that are suitable for the task -- stuff I can order on Amazon prime is better. Any recommendations (especially ones that can arrive by the middle of next week) are appreciated!

I had a brilliant idea the other day: instead of buying all sorts of different socks and cursing the gods when I lose one of a matching pair, I should buy bunches of matching socks in the same color so that any two go with each other. Help me enact this plan by finding socks that meet my criteria. Snowflake details inside. [more inside]

I was thinking about Steve Jobs buying a closet full of black turtlenecks so he didn't have to make that decision every day. I also saw some recent charts that showed purchasing trends for different age groups, and noted that once people buy good flatware they don't make an additional purchase. It occurred to me that, at my age (mid-forties) I could conceivably purchase a lifetime supply of socks.
What are items that a person of average means could purchase in sufficient quantities to last them the rest of their life? [more inside]

Where can I purchase more socks like these
? Acquired by my husband over 10 years ago at an airport in the Netherlands, they are long-lasting, comfortable, made of wool, have the word "TRAIL" embroidered in red across the instep, three horizontal red stripes on the ball of the foot, and what may be a size "3-46" in red across the toe.

I'm looking for a replacement pair of Spongebob socks - yes, really. It's a mother's day gift, and a replacement for a much-loved pair. They are very tall, thick and soft and warm, sized for an adult, white with a colorful grid pattern like a Mondrian painting (yes, really) interspersed with large yellow squares featuring Spongebob making a face. They had little yellow square plush Spongebob "knobs" or cloth buttons of some kind at the top.

No matter what kind of socks I buy, expensive brand name ones, or just cheap regular ones, my socks eventually tear at the toe end. It's usually right where my big toe is. I'm talking about my dress socks, not the regular ones I wear with sneakers.
I found one pair that lasted for a long while but then finally started to tear. What's the deal? Is the material perhaps? Is it my feet? Am I buying the wrong brand?
