What mental health therapist professional organization should I join?

Should I Keep Working Toward My Masters in Social Work? Now or Later?

In a nutshell: I'm almost 38 years old, happily married, and am currently raising 3 kids (the youngest is 9). I work full-time at a job that I love – and that loves me back - but which doesn't pay particularly well. My husband's income compensates for that. We are decidedly middle class with some debts, low savings, and a mortgage. I have a (Canadian) college diploma in social services that's a little over 2 years old at this point. I am trying to decide whether to further my education - and whether to do it now or later. [more inside]

How much praise is too much?

Our thirteen-month-old foster daughter's social worker is fantastic. She regularly goes above and beyond what's required for our kid's case. In the ten months we've worked with her, I've regularly thanked her for all she does to make our lives as foster parents and our foster daughter's life better, and twice I've called to tell her supervisor how great she is. Is it overkill to keep calling her boss to report that she's awesome? How can I best thank her for her service to our foster daughter? [more inside]

Anyone know of a movie about a social worker who pretends to be homeless?

I've got some sketchy details about a movie I'm looking for & I'm hoping it will sound familar to someone here. The movie is about a young social worker who is working in a homeless shelter. To learn more about being homeless, the SWer pretends to be homeless herself and befriends a homeless woman. The homeless woman gets very angry when she finds out that her friend is actually a social worker & is not homeless. It may have been a Lifetime movie or something as equally cheesy. Any ideas?
